2'6" x 24'6" Chobi Runner Rug | Red Field & Ivory Floral Border | Hand-Knotted Wool
Runners this long are not ordered by accident. At 2'6" x 24'6" this piece was knotted to cover a full 24 foot corridor in one continuous run, with no seams, no joins and no awkward gap between two short rugs. It is hand-knotted in India with a 3/8" wool pile on a cotton foundation, and the drawing runs the entire length without the design breaking rhythm, which is the hard part on a narrow loom of this length. The pile is full and even from fringe to fringe, the selvedges are tight, and the condition is perfect. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is a genuine hand-knotted piece, and in a long format like this it is worth noting that even a 150 lb oversize order ships free to all 50 states. If your constraint is a long upstairs hall or a galley kitchen run, this belongs with the long hallway runner rugs rather than with area sizes.
Design and Motifs
The field carries a classic Chobi all-over composition: a continuous lattice of thin scrolling vines that links large rounded rosettes and open palmettes, each one filled with small serrated leaves and tiny blossoms. Because there is no central medallion, the pattern reads the same whether you walk the hall from either direction, which is exactly what you want in a 24'6" run. Look closely at the close-up photograph and you can see how the weaver alternated the flower heads, some drawn with a dark navy to black center, others with an ivory heart, so no two repeats sit directly beside each other. The ivory main border holds an unbroken procession of palmettes and leafy sprays, fenced on both sides by narrow olive guard stripes and a slim red outer line that frames the whole runner. The end panels finish cleanly with a mirrored band of flower heads above the natural cotton fringe.
A Deep Red Field Against Ivory and Olive
The ground is a deep, slightly wine-leaning red, closer to claret than to tomato, and it shifts subtly along the length as the light catches the wool from one direction and then the other. Against that field the palmettes are worked in soft olive and sage green, muted antique gold and warm camel, with ivory and cream used for the smaller blossoms so the pattern stays legible from standing height. Small touches of dusty pink and charcoal to black punctuate the flower centers and keep the palette from going flat. The border is a quiet ivory to light cream that photographs almost oatmeal on the tile floor, and it does the useful job of lifting the red away from pale stone or hardwood instead of fighting it. Overall this is a warm, traditional color story: red and cream carrying olive green, with just enough dark accent to anchor it.
Woven in India to Order in a 24'6" Length
India is where most of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted work is now made, and we say that without hedging: the weaving centers around Agra, Bhadohi and Jaipur produce floral Chobi and Sultanabad style pieces at a standard that stands comparison with anything being woven today. The back photograph shows the evidence, a tidy, regular grid of knots with the design reading clearly from the reverse, straight rows and no pulling along the 294" length. That matters more on a runner than on an area rug, because any drift in tension over 24 feet shows up as a wave on the floor, and this one lies flat. As an Oriental rug in the broader sense of the term, it follows the old Persian floral vocabulary while being honestly modern work, hand-knotted wool pile on cotton, built for a hallway that will be walked every day.
