Octagon Rugs

An eight-sided rug is a compromise between a square and a circle, and it is woven deliberately rather than cut. It sits under a round table without leaving the corners bare, and it centres a square room without repeating its shape. There are few of them: most looms are dressed for a rectangle, and a shaped rug costs the weaver the same time for less floor.
