Design and Motifs

The field carries a balanced all-over floral design rather than a central medallion, so the pattern repeats calmly in every direction and the rug can be turned without looking wrong. Large crowned palmettes anchor the vertical axis, flanked by broad serrated acanthus leaves that curl outward like waves, while a hairline vine links each element to the next. At the center sits an 8 petal rosette set between two small cruciform blossoms, a quiet pause in an otherwise busy field. The main border runs on an ivory ground with alternating leafy cartouches and upright tulip-like buds joined by a thin scrolling meander, framed on both sides by camel guard stripes filled with tiny curling leaves and 4 petal flowerheads.
