6'10" x 10'2" Super Kazak Oriental Rug | Navy Blue All-Over Geometric | Silky Wool, Brand New

This 6'10" x 10'2" Super Kazak is a brand new hand-knotted rug with a deep navy blue field, a wide ivory main border and a silky wool pile that shifts in tone as you walk past it. The drawing is confidently geometric, built from stepped diamond medallions, hooked star medallions and serrated rosettes set in staggered rows, so it anchors a room instead of fading into it. The weave is tight, the handle is supple, the ends are hand-finished, and the pile has never been walked on. It ships with a certificate of authenticity recording the weave, the materials and the country of origin, and it sits in one of the most useful formats we carry, so it is worth seeing against the rest of our 7x10 Oriental rugs.

Design and Motifs

The field runs as a repeat rather than a single centerpiece, which is what collectors look for in all-over geometric rugs. Down the center axis sit stepped lozenge medallions with 8 petal rosette centers, flanked by large serrated diamonds whose edges are drawn as fine saw teeth. At each end of the field a broad coral and red star medallion carries 2 upright blue tree motifs inside a cream panel, the boldest single element in the rug. Between the medallions the weaver filled the ground with angular 8 pointed rosettes, cruciform flowerheads, tiny arrows, pairs of comb-like serrated leaves and small hooked brackets, every one outlined so the shapes stay crisp against the dark ground. The main ivory border repeats blue and coral palmettes with red rosettes linked by reciprocal hooks and vine ends, framed on the inside by a narrow teal green floral stripe and on the outside by a saffron gold band of alternating stars and X figures, with a plain navy edge closing the composition. The 4 corners are resolved cleanly, which on a geometric drawing of this scale takes real planning at the loom.

The Navy Blue Palette and Its Accents

Navy blue is the main color, and it is a living navy rather than a flat one: the close-up photographs show fine vertical striation through the ground where the hand-spun wool took the dye at slightly different strengths, a gentle abrash that keeps a large dark field from looking printed. Against it the weaver worked tomato red, rust and apricot orange, soft coral, cream and ivory, saffron gold in the outer stripe, muted teal green in the inner guard band, and small touches of light sky blue inside the rosettes. The ivory border lifts the whole piece and gives the dark field a clear edge, while the gold stripe adds warmth at the very outside. In daylight the field reads as a true royal navy; under lamplight it deepens toward indigo and the coral and gold come forward. That balance makes it an easy fit with wood floors, warm whites and brass, and an obvious candidate among navy blue Oriental rugs for buyers who want color without a busy pastel palette.

Origin, Weaving Town and Quality

The Kazak design belongs to the old weaving villages of the Caucasus, and it is now carried on by the workshops of northern Pakistan, where the best contemporary hand-knotted work in this idiom is made. The "Super" grade is the finer tier: hand-spun wool, a tighter knot count than village Kazak weaving, longer-wearing hand-carded fleece with a natural sheen, and a softer, more considered palette. This piece is knotted on a cotton foundation with a silky wool pile, trimmed to a medium height so the outlines stay sharp, and finished with hand-knotted fringes and overcast selvages, as the back and corner photographs show. It is an honest modern Oriental rug, made entirely by hand on an upright loom, and at 6'10" x 10'2" it is built to take daily traffic for decades without the drawing losing its edge.

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
