6'8" x 9'9" Kazak Oriental Rug | Green Triple Medallion Geometric | Hand-Knotted Wool, New

This is a brand new, never used Kazak Oriental rug, hand-knotted in Pakistan in 100% natural wool on a cotton foundation and measuring 6'8" x 9'9". The weaver worked three stacked medallions down a deep green field, one in gold, one in ivory and salmon, one in red and gold, so the drawing reads as a continuous column rather than a single centered motif. The pile has real body to it, the wool takes light with a soft sheen, and the back shows an even, regular knot line across the full width. It sits comfortably in the 7x10 range, which makes it one of the more usable 7x10 Oriental rugs for a seating group or a dining table. A certificate of authenticity is included with every rug we ship.

Design and Motifs

The field carries three large stepped medallions, each built from an 8 petal rosette center inside a hooked diamond with serrated outer edges, and each separated by a smaller lozenge rosette. Around them the weaver filled the open green ground with the vocabulary that makes geometric rugs of this type so readable: 8 pointed stars, stylized bird and animal silhouettes, small tree and candle forms, cross motifs and tiny comb figures. Five borders frame all 4 corners. The main band is navy, set with ivory cartouches and radiating star rosettes, flanked by a red rosette and cross stripe on one side and a wide gold minor band on the other, with ivory latch hook guard stripes and a narrow saw tooth outer stripe closing the composition. Everything is drawn in straight lines and stepped diagonals, with no curved vine work at all, which is exactly what the Kazak idiom calls for.

A Deep Green Field With Red, Gold and Navy

The ground is a dark, slightly mottled green that moves between a forest tone and a cooler sage depending on where the light falls, and that natural variation across the field is one of the nicest things about the rug in person. Against it the medallions read in warm gold and tomato red, with the central medallion worked in ivory and framed in a soft salmon that is the quietest color in the rug. Navy blue carries the main border and the medallion cores, light blue appears in the small petal and leaf fills, and clean white is used sparingly for outlines and in the fringe. Yellow runs through the minor border and the small star fills, beige and ivory hold the guard stripes, and scattered touches of rose, pale green and charcoal fill the smallest motifs. Red at the outer edge pulls the whole palette together, so the rug stays bright without tipping into busy.

Kazak Weaving, Made in Pakistan

The Kazak design belongs to the old Caucasus weaving tradition, where village looms produced bold medallion rugs in a limited, high contrast palette, and today the best hand-knotted work in that idiom comes out of the workshops of Pakistan. This piece is honest about that: the back tag reads hand-knotted in Pakistan, 100% natural wool. The weave is tight and consistent, the selvages are wrapped in green wool and finished cleanly, the fringes are flat and even, and the knot count is regular enough that the stepped diagonals stay crisp from one medallion to the next. The wool is the real story, a durable, lustrous yarn with enough lanolin to take foot traffic for decades and enough character to deepen in tone as it ages. Never used and in brand new condition, it is a rug bought at the start of its life rather than partway through it.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
