7' x 10' Persian Tabriz Rug | Open Red Field | Navy Medallion & Panel Border

This 7' x 10' Persian Tabriz rug leaves most of its red field completely open, which is the hardest way to draw a rug and the most honest way to show the wool. One navy medallion holds the center, a handful of ivory rosettes and thin floral sprays float around it, and a band of arched panels closes the field at each end. The pile is a full 3/8" wool, even and upright across the whole surface, and the condition is excellent with clean, straight sides and no restoration. Among our 7x10 Persian rugs this one reads as the calm, formal option rather than a busy all-over pattern, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity recording origin, materials and hand-knotted construction.

Design and Motifs

The medallion is a stepped navy lobed form with a small ivory panel at its heart, and inside that panel sits a tight red and gold rosette drawn with the kind of hooked, angular detail you see in the close-up photograph. Two rose and olive cartouches sit above and below the ivory center, flanked by sky blue and pink medallion insets and small white 8 petal flowers set into the navy ground. A slim pendant finial drops from the medallion at top and bottom, each one ending in a navy palmette outlined in ivory. The open field carries only 4 ivory rosettes with trailing leaf stems and 2 loose bouquets at the sides, so the red is allowed to breathe. Across both ends runs a row of arched panels in salmon, dark green, ivory and blue, each holding its own flowering plant or vase, and the center panel of each row is an ivory arch with a flower-filled vessel. The main border is a near-black navy ground with large paired palmettes and ivory rosettes, bracketed inside and out by ivory guard stripes of small alternating flowerheads.

A Deep Red Field Framed in Near-Black Navy

The field is a deep, slightly blue-leaning crimson, not an orange red, and because it is uninterrupted the wool's natural luster shifts from a lighter rose tone to a darker claret as you walk around it. The main border reads as black in the overall photographs and resolves into a very dark indigo navy in the close-ups, which is what gives the rug its weight and keeps the red from looking loud. Between the two sit the true accent colors: chalk ivory in the guard stripes and rosettes, a soft salmon pink in the end panels, clear sky blue, a bottle green that darkens almost to forest in the panel grounds, touches of mustard gold, and small notes of rose and turquoise inside the medallion. It is a classic red and navy combination that works in a room with wood floors, cream walls or warm leather, and it belongs squarely with our red and burgundy Persian rugs.

Tabriz Weaving and Quality

Tabriz sits in northwest Persia and has been the commercial and design engine of Persian weaving for centuries, the city where the loom-side cartoon, the workshop system and the Raj measure of fineness were all refined. Raj counts knots per gereh of about 2.75 in across the width, and it is the reason Tabriz work is graded more precisely than almost any other origin. This piece is a solid workshop weave on a cotton foundation with a wool pile, and the back photograph taken against a ruler shows the knot rows running straight and consistent, with no pull or slant along the length. That discipline is why an open field is possible at all: any unevenness in the knotting or in the dye lot would show instantly across 7 feet of plain red. The drawing of the medallion and the end panels follows the Tabriz habit of combining a curved outline with crisply geometric interior detail, and the 3/8" pile gives it the density to hold up under furniture and traffic for decades.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
