This is a room-size Persian Tabriz at 9'8" x 14', hand-knotted in fine wool on a cotton foundation and drawn in the classic workshop manner: one ivory star medallion floating on a deep red field that is filled corner to corner with vine work, and a wide navy border holding the whole thing together. The pile is even and full across the field, the selvages are tight, and the fringes are clean and original, which is what earns the excellent condition grade. Design and Motifs

The center holds a 16 point ivory rosette medallion built in rings: a small red and olive flower head at the core, a ring of powder blue and rose petals, then a navy collar of lanceolate leaves, then a spray of ivory palmettes radiating outward. A long navy pendant drops from each end of the medallion, and the 4 corners carry matching ivory spandrels so the layout reads as a true medallion and corner design. What separates this piece from a simpler Tabriz is the field itself, which is not left open: the red ground is covered in a dense, continuous lattice of curved vines, split palmettes, serrated leaves and small 8 petal blossoms, all of it drawn with the smooth curvilinear line that a fine workshop cartoon allows. Color Palette
