8'9" x 13'1" Moroccan Design Oriental Rug | Ivory & Taupe Diamond Lattice | Hand-Knotted Wool
This is a brand new, never used 8'9" x 13'1" hand-knotted wool rug woven in the Moroccan idiom: a quiet ivory field, a lattice of soft diamonds in taupe and gray, and braided black and ivory flatweave ends finished with hand-twisted tassels. The 1/2" pile is thick enough to feel underfoot but short enough to keep the drawing crisp, and the whole piece reads as texture first, pattern second. It is a genuine hand-knotted Oriental rug, not a tufted or machine-made lookalike, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming the weave, the wool and the origin.
Design and Motifs
The field carries 6 vertical columns of elongated diamonds that meet point to point, so the eye reads them as both a lattice and a stack of hourglasses. Some diamonds are filled solid in taupe, others are drawn in fine horizontal striations of charcoal and gray, and the alternation between the two keeps the repeat from ever looking mechanical. There is no border at all, which is exactly right for this family of geometric rugs: the pattern simply runs off the edge, the way tribal Moroccan weavers have always drawn it. Horizontal black and ivory braids punctuate both long sides at regular intervals, each ending in a short knotted tassel, and both ends finish in a chevron flatweave band with gray fringe. Small irregularities in the diamond outlines are the signature of hand work on the loom.
A Palette Built on Ivory, Taupe and Charcoal
The ground is a natural ivory, closer to raw fleece than to bleached white, with faint tonal banding across the width where different batches of undyed wool meet. Against it sit warm taupe diamonds that shade toward sand in direct light, and a second set drawn in cool gray with thin black striping running through the pile. Slender pale gray outlines separate the two families, and scattered dark flecks in the ivory give the surface a hand-spun, lightly heathered quality rather than a flat printed look. Black appears only where it counts, in the braided side accents and the chevron end bands, so the contrast stays graphic without dominating the room. It is a genuinely neutral 9x13 that will sit comfortably with oak, walnut, linen, brass and gray upholstery.
Woven in Pakistan to Moroccan Drawing
Pakistan's weaving centers have spent decades supplying the world with hand-knotted wool, and their workshops are now among the best places to have Moroccan and other modern and contemporary designs woven at scale without losing the hand. This piece uses 100% natural wool on a cotton foundation, knotted at a deliberately open, chunky gauge that suits the bold diamond drawing and gives the rug its soft, ropey handle, visible in the folded-corner photograph. The back shows clean, even knot rows and straight selvages, and the flatweave ends are woven as part of the rug rather than added afterward. At 8'9" x 13'1" it covers a full seating group or a long dining table, and pieces in the large rug range like this one ship free to all 50 states.
