9'8" x 13' Persian Kashan Rug | Deep Red Floral Medallion | Full Pile, Early 2000s

This is the classic central Persian formula done properly: a deep red field, a navy lobed medallion, ivory corners, and nothing left empty between them. Woven in the 2000's on a cotton foundation with a 100% natural wool pile, this Persian Kashan rug measures 9'8" x 13" in loom terms but reads on the floor at its true 9'8" x 13', a genuine room-size piece with pile that still stands up straight across the whole surface. The handle is firm, the sides are tight, and the colors have the saturated clarity you only get from good wool. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity.

Design and Motifs

At the center sits a small 8 petal rosette inside a sky blue cartouche, which sits inside an ivory star medallion, which in turn floats on a navy lobed surround with slender pendants reaching toward the ends. Rather than leaving the field open, the weaver filled it edge to edge with flowering vines: curling green leaf stems, cypress-like sprays, blue palmettes, ivory blossoms and small rose buds, all drawn in mirrored pairs so the field balances perfectly around the medallion. Ivory spandrels close the 4 corners with their own arabesque bouquets. The main navy border carries alternating palmettes and vine scrolls, framed by narrow ivory and sky blue guard stripes outlined in gold yellow.

The Color Story: Deep Red, Navy and Ivory

The field is a true deep red, closer to cherry than to brick, with enough blue in it to sit comfortably beside cool wall colors. Against that, the border reads as a dark inky navy, and the medallion and spandrels lift the whole rug with warm ivory. Between those three anchors the weaver worked a surprisingly wide palette: sky blue and teal in the medallion core, olive and sage green through every leaf and stem, rose pink in the smaller blossoms, wine burgundy in the border palmettes, plus thin gold yellow outlines that make each flower pop off the ground. Close up, as in the pile photos, the wool shows a soft sheen and the color separation between motifs stays crisp.

Kashan: The Weaving Town and the Quality

Kashan sits in central Persia, north of Isfahan, and its workshops trace their drawing straight back to the Safavid court tradition. Local wool is soft and lustrous, the weave is a tight double-wefted knot on cotton, and the result is a rug that lies flat, takes traffic, and keeps its drawing sharp for decades. Kashan is also the most recognizable Persian design in America: when you watch Shark Tank there is a Persian Kashan on the floor. At this scale the piece belongs in the category of 10x13 Persian rugs, large enough to carry all furniture legs in a full-size room while the medallion stays visible.
