10' x 13'8" Chobi Peshawar Ziegler Rug | Light Green & Beige All Over Floral | Recent Weave

This is a large, quiet piece of weaving: a soft light green field carrying an all over floral repeat in faded gold, beige and soft brown, held inside a wide border drawn in the same low register. It is hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation, a recent Peshawar weave finished with the washed, low-sheen surface that gives Chobi Ziegler rugs their settled look straight off the loom. At 10 feet wide it fills a full seating group or a long dining table comfortably, and it belongs with the 10x14 Oriental rugs that anchor open-plan rooms rather than sit inside them. A certificate of authenticity ships with the rug.

Please Note About the Photographs:

This rug is graded excellent with some discoloration, shown honestly in the close-up photographs: a slightly warmer, more golden tone across part of the field where the wash has taken unevenly. It is a tonal variation in the wool, not wear and not a hole, and on a washed Chobi it reads as part of the character. The faint horizontal line visible in several shots is a fold mark from flat storage on the pallet, not damage or fading, and it relaxes once the rug is laid flat. Every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it ships.

Design and Motifs

There is no medallion here. The field runs as a continuous all over floral design, a loose lattice of broad palmettes, open rosettes and serrated leaves linked by a slow vine scroll that repeats up the length of the rug without ever locking into a rigid grid. The drawing is deliberately soft edged, with the flower heads set wide apart so the ground has room to breathe, which is why a 10 foot width reads calm rather than busy. Three borders frame it: a main band of alternating palmettes and leafy stems, flanked by narrow guard stripes carrying a small running vine. Corner resolutions are relaxed rather than mathematically exact, the mark of a hand drawn cartoon followed knot by knot. Close up, image 6 and image 10 show how the pattern is built one row at a time, with the gold motifs emerging from the lighter ground rather than being outlined against it.

Light Green, Beige and Soft Brown

The field is a pale light green, closer to sage or celadon than to any strong color, and it shifts as you walk around it: cooler and greyer toward the center of the rug, warmer and more oatmeal along the borders where the wash has pulled the tone toward beige. Against that ground the florals sit in muted gold and honey, some almost mustard where the wool took the dye more deeply, others faded nearly to ivory. Soft brown and camel carry the vine work and the outer border, giving the pattern just enough definition to read from standing height. Abrash, the natural banding that comes from hand-dyed yarn, runs horizontally through the field in gentle bands of green over beige. The overall palette is low contrast and neutral, the kind that works with oak floors, linen upholstery, plaster walls and warm metals, and it will not fight artwork or a strong sofa color.

Peshawar Weaving and the Ziegler Tradition

Peshawar, in northwestern Pakistan, is one of the few places still producing hand-knotted room-size goods at this level of consistency, and the Chobi Ziegler is its signature product: highland wool, hand-spun and dyed in softened tones, knotted on a cotton warp and then given a gentle wash that takes the brightness out of the dyes without stripping the wool of its natural luster. The weave on this piece is even across all 13 feet 8 inches of length, the selvages are tight and hand-finished, and the pile is cut low enough to hold the drawing crisply while still feeling substantial underfoot. If you are comparing this style against other hand-knotted Oriental rugs, the guide on what separates one Oriental rug tradition from another is worth reading before you decide. Honest origin, honest condition, honestly priced.
