10' x 14' Persian Kashan Rug | Ruby Red Field, Ivory Medallion | Perfect Condition

This is the rug most people are picturing when they say they want a Persian rug. A ruby red field, a navy lobed medallion with an ivory and blue heart, ivory corner spandrels and a wide navy border of turning vines and palmettes: the classic formula, drawn here across a full 10' x 14' with no crowding and no shortcuts in the curves. The pile is hand-knotted wool on a cotton foundation, still full and silky with almost no traffic on it, and the ends and selvedges are tight and original as you can see in the corner and back photos. It is a large room rug with the presence to anchor a 12x16 or 14x18 space, and it sits comfortably among the best Persian Kashan rugs we carry in this size. If you are shopping a specific footprint, our 10x14 Persian rugs collection is the place to compare. Every rug we ship travels with a certificate of authenticity recording origin, materials and construction.

Design and Motifs

The center holds a navy lobed medallion built in stepped hooks, with an ivory cartouche inside it and a small 8 petal rosette on a light blue ground at the very core, finished top and bottom with slender navy pendants. Around that, the red field is not left open: it is filled edge to edge with a fine all over drawing of curling vines, split leaves, palmettes and small Shah Abbasi blossoms, each one outlined so the pattern reads clearly from standing height. The 4 corners carry ivory spandrels with blue and rose flowering sprays, which is what gives the field its oval silhouette. The main border runs a navy ground with alternating rosettes and palmettes linked by a continuous vine, flanked by a light blue minor border and narrow ivory guard stripes that keep the whole composition framed. The close-up of the corner shows how carefully the drawing is kept symmetrical where the borders turn, which is the detail that separates workshop weaving from village work.

A Ruby Red Field Against Deep Navy Blue

The field reads as a saturated ruby red with a raspberry lean in direct light, deeper and slightly cooler where the pile lies away from you, which is the natural sheen of good wool rather than any variation in dye. Set against it, the border and medallion ground are a true deep navy blue, almost inky in the shadows of the corner photograph. Ivory does the separating work: in the spandrels, in the medallion cartouche, in the guard stripes and in the outlines that trace every vine. The secondary palette is where the rug becomes interesting up close, with rose pink rosettes, a clear mid light blue in the minor border and the medallion core, warm brown and soft olive green in the leaves, and small touches of gold and cream in the flower heads. The fringe is clean ivory cotton and the selvedge is bound in the same red as the field.

Kashan: Central Persia and the Quality of the Weave

Kashan sits in central Persia, north of Isfahan, and its workshops trace their drawing straight back to the Safavid court tradition. The town is known for soft, lustrous local wool and for the formula this rug follows: red field, navy lobed medallion, ivory spandrels. It is also the most recognizable Persian design in America; when you watch Shark Tank there is a Persian Kashan on the floor. On the back you can see an even, tightly packed knot line with no bulges or pulled rows, the mark of a rug woven on a properly tensioned loom by weavers who kept the same beat across all 14 feet. Wool pile on a cotton foundation in this weight is built for decades of real use in a living room or dining room, and with the pile still standing full and unworn, this 10' x 14' has effectively all of that life ahead of it.
