12'2" x 18'7" Pakistani Oriental Rug | Pine Green Floral Medallion | Oversize, Brand New

This is a true palace-size piece: 12'2" x 18'7" of hand-knotted wool on a cotton foundation, woven in Pakistan in the classic traditional idiom, with a deep pine green field, a rose and slate blue medallion, and a wide ivory border. Nothing about it is casual. The drawing is dense and curvilinear, the wool takes a soft sheen under light, and the 3/8" pile is even from selvage to selvage. It is brand new and has never been on a floor. At this scale, size is the deciding factor for most buyers, which is why it belongs in the oversize 12x19 rug group rather than anything smaller, and it is a textbook example of what a well-made contemporary Oriental rug looks like. Every rug ships with a certificate of authenticity.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The overhead studio photograph renders the field almost black-green under direct lighting. The on-floor photographs are the truer reading: the ground is a deep pine green that opens up considerably in daylight, and the rose tones in the medallion and spandrels are warmer in person than the flat shot suggests.

Design and Motifs

The layout is the classic workshop formula, drawn with unusual care for a rug this large. At center sits a lobed rosette medallion built in 3 concentric stages: a slate blue core carrying an 8 petal rosette, a rose middle ring filled with mirrored vine work and small lanceolate leaves, and an outer rose frame that breaks into scalloped lobes and finishes in a pendant at each end. The green field around it is not empty for a single inch. Scrolling vines carry palmettes, lotus blossoms, serrated saz leaves and small rosettes in a balanced all-over rhythm that reads symmetrically along both axes. The 4 corner spandrels are rose, set off against the green by a fine outline, and filled with boteh paisley forms and small ivory cartouches. The main border is ivory, with a turning vine linking large palmettes and rounded floral bosses, and it is flanked on both sides by dark guard stripes of tiny meandering blossoms. The corner resolution, visible in the close-up photograph, is clean: the border pattern turns properly instead of being cut short, which is a reliable sign of a drawn cartoon and a disciplined weaver.

A Pine Green Field Framed in Ivory

The ground is pine green, deep and slightly blue-leaning, the kind of tone that behaves like a neutral in a large room rather than shouting color. Against it the palette runs warm: rose and dusty salmon in the medallion, spandrels and scattered blossoms; soft olive and sage in the leaf work; brick and terracotta in the smaller flower heads; and ivory used sparingly through the field as a highlight so the vines stay legible. The medallion core introduces a muted slate blue that cools the center and keeps the rose from dominating. The wide ivory border is the counterweight that makes the whole piece work, lifting the green at the edges and giving the rug a bright outline on a wood or stone floor. A dark guard band and a green outer edge close the composition. If you are shopping green area rugs for a room with a lot of natural wood, warm brass or cream upholstery, this combination of pine green and ivory is one of the easiest to live with.

Woven in Pakistan, Traditional Workshop Quality

Pakistan's weaving centers around Lahore have spent decades producing traditional medallion and floral designs on cotton warps to a consistently high standard, and this rug sits at the upper end of that work. The back photograph, shot next to a ruler, shows the story plainly: straight, even rows, small tight knots, a firm double-weft structure and no drift in the row count, which is exactly what allows the curved vine work and the fine border blossoms to be drawn without stepping. The wool is well spun and has the low luster that takes color cleanly and wears slowly, and the 3/8" pile is clipped level across all 223" of length, with clean green selvages and hand-finished cotton fringe at both ends. Weaving an oversize piece like this without the sides bowing or the medallion pulling off center takes a wide loom, several weavers working in sync and well over a year of work, and this one has come off the loom square and flat.
