Design and Motifs

The center holds a layered ivory medallion built out from a small 8 petal rosette, ringed by tiers of palmettes, curled leaves and paired bird-like arabesque tips, then closed with a scalloped ivory outline. Around it the dark field is covered edge to edge with a continuous vine system: large palmettes, small 5 petal rosettes, sickle leaves and long curling cloud-band leaf forms, all mirrored across both axes so the drawing reads the same from either end of the room. A soft grey blue lobed frame wraps the field and resolves into 4 corner spandrels filled with the same vinework at reduced scale. Outside that sits the wide ivory main border, where upright floral bouquets and vase-like palmette clusters alternate along a thin meandering vine, flanked by narrow guard stripes of running rosettes and a plain black outer edge that locks the whole composition together.
