2'7" x 18' Chobi Peshawar Ziegler Runner Rug | Pale Beige & Light Teal All Over Floral | Brand New
Runners this long are rare, and a 2'7" x 18' piece is made for one job: carrying a long hall or gallery from one end to the other in a single uninterrupted sweep. This one is a hand-knotted Chobi Peshawar Ziegler, 18 feet of pale beige and cream wool with a soft grey-green to light teal blue field, woven at 31 inches wide so it sits comfortably in a corridor without crowding the baseboards. The pile is a close-cropped 1/4" wool on a cotton foundation, which keeps the drawing crisp and the rug flat underfoot, and it is brand new and never used. It ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it as a genuine hand-knotted Oriental rug, not a machine-made or power-loomed copy.
Please Note About the Photographs:
The faint horizontal lines you can see crossing the runner in a few of the floor photos are fold marks from rolled and folded pallet storage, plus the shadow they cast under overhead light. They are not wear, not fading and not damage. They relax out once the rug is laid flat, and every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it leaves us. The first studio image also reads a touch cooler and lighter than the floor shots; the warmer beige in the later photos is closer to the rug in daylight.
Design and Motifs
The field carries no medallion at all. Instead it runs an all over floral lattice the full 18 feet, built from small open rosettes, 8 petal blossoms, split palmettes and a thin vine that loops between them so the repeat never reads as a stamp. Serrated leaves branch off the vine at regular intervals and give the pattern its slight tribal stiffness, which is exactly the Ziegler signature: a Sultanabad-style village drawing redrawn in an open, airy spacing with plenty of ground showing between motifs. The border is a 3 band arrangement, a wide main band of hooked palmettes and leafy scroll flanked by two narrow guard stripes, and the corners resolve cleanly rather than cutting a motif in half. Because the pattern is directionless across the width, the runner looks correct walking in from either end of the hall, which matters on a piece this long.
A Pale Pastel Palette of Beige and Light Teal Blue
The whole rug sits in a narrow band of very low-saturation color, which is why it works in almost any room. The ground reads as a soft grey-green that shifts toward light teal blue where the light hits it, and the floral tracery over it is drawn in pale beige, oatmeal and cream ivory, with the palest motifs sitting just a shade lighter than the field so the pattern emerges gradually rather than announcing itself. Scattered through the field are small flecks of clearer teal and a few warmer tan and buff notes, and those tiny points of color are the only places the palette raises its voice. The main border goes warmer and sandier, a wheat beige that frames the cooler center, and the guard stripes are a quiet ivory. The ends finish in natural ivory cotton fringe. Seen end to end the effect is pure pastel: calm, slightly faded in character, and easy against white trim, oak floors, grey stone or a pale limestone tile.
Woven in Pakistan: Chobi Peshawar Weaving Quality
Peshawar, in northwest Pakistan, is the center of the Chobi Ziegler trade, and the best contemporary hand-knotted work in these soft, washed-down palettes comes out of its workshops. The weavers use highland wool spun for strength, dye it in muted tones, and then wash the finished rug so the color settles into that gently aged look rather than reading new and bright. On a 2'7" x 18' loom the hard part is discipline: 18 feet of weaving has to hold a consistent 31 inch width and keep the lattice repeat on register from one end to the other, and this piece does both, with straight edges, tight selvages and even knotting visible in the close-up shots. The short 1/4" pile over a cotton foundation makes it practical where it will actually live, under doors and in traffic, and that is the real argument for it as a long hallway runner rug.
