2'7" x 18'3" Ziegler Chobi Runner Rug | Rust Coral All-Over Floral | Extra Long, Brand New

Runners this long are not kept in stock by most dealers, which is exactly why this one is worth a close look. It measures 2'7" x 18'3", narrow enough to sit cleanly between baseboards and long enough to carry an entire corridor without a seam or a second piece, so it suits the kind of long hallway runners that are usually a special order. It is hand-knotted in natural wool on a cotton foundation, woven in the Ziegler Chobi manner with a soft rust coral field and a wide gold border, and it is brand new and never used. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is genuine hand-knotted work.

Please Note About the Photographs:

At 18'3" the rug is too long for a single studio frame, so several photographs show it partly rolled at one end. One of the wide shots was taken under brighter lighting and reads paler than the rug actually is. The close-up images are the truest guide to the depth of the rust coral field and the warmth of the gold border.

Design and Motifs

There is no medallion here. Instead the field carries a continuous all-over floral design of large palmettes, broad serrated leaves and 8 petal rosettes, all linked by a thin vine that travels the full 18'3" without losing its rhythm. The drawing is deliberately generous in scale, so even in a 2'7" width you see whole flower heads rather than fragments, and the repeat is long enough that the eye does not read it as a stamped pattern. Small cypress-like sprays and curled arabesque tips fill the gaps between the larger blooms. The wide main border runs a meandering vine with alternating rosettes and split leaves, framed on both sides by narrow guard stripes of tiny stylised flowers, and the corners are resolved cleanly rather than cut off mid motif, which is a good sign of a weaver following a proper cartoon.

Color: Soft Rust Coral, Gold and Sage

The field is a soft rust coral, a warm terracotta red that shifts in tone as the light moves along the pile, with gentle horizontal variation from the hand-spun yarn that gives the ground its depth rather than a flat printed look. Against it the flowers are drawn in beige, cream and pale straw gold, several of them shaded so one half of a petal reads ivory and the other a dusty apricot. The wide border is a light honey gold, noticeably brighter than the field, and it is filled with brick red and soft brown outlines that keep the pattern legible from across a room. Sage green appears sparingly in leaf tips and small calyxes, a cool note that stops the palette from going entirely warm. Charcoal brown outlining separates the motifs, the outer edge finishes in a deeper rust, and the fringe is natural ivory cotton.

Ziegler Weaving and Origin

Ziegler takes its name from the 19th century trading house that commissioned large-scale, open floral rugs in softened colors for Western interiors, and the style has since become one of the most requested looks in the hand-knotted trade. Today the best work in this idiom comes out of Pakistan, where weavers around Peshawar and Lahore use hand-spun, hand-carded wool and muted natural-toned dyes to produce the Chobi finish seen here. This is a genuine Oriental rug, knotted entirely by hand on a cotton foundation, and the back shown in the photographs reveals even rows, a tight straight edge and clear knot definition along the whole 18'3" run. The pile is clipped low, which is what you want in a corridor piece: doors clear it, furniture legs do not sink into it, and the wool takes traffic without matting.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
