6'1" x 9' Chobi Peshawar Oriental Rug | Transitional All Over Lattice | Beige Wool, Never Used

This is a quiet rug that does a lot of work. The whole 6'1" x 9' field is drawn in one tone family, a warm golden beige lattice over camel ground, and then punctuated by small dark brown octagons and 8 point stars that give the eye somewhere to land. The wool is hand-knotted on a cotton foundation with a medium pile that still has its full height, since the rug has never been used or walked on. At this size it sits comfortably under a sofa and two chairs or a modest dining set, which puts it squarely in the most requested range of 6x9 Oriental rugs. Every rug we ship leaves Freeport with its certificate of authenticity confirming the hand-knotted construction, materials and origin.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The lighting changes between shots. The first studio image reads as a cooler ivory beige, while the floor photographs show the warmer golden camel tone that is closest to the rug in person. This is lighting only, not two different colorways, and not fade or wear. The design, the pile and the condition are the same in every frame.

Design and Motifs

The field is an all over lattice design: a beaded ogee trellis repeats across the width, each compartment filled with a softly drawn palmette and curling leaf. Because the lattice is woven only one or two shades away from the ground, it reads as texture rather than pattern from standing height, and only resolves into clear drawing when you look down close, as in the detail photographs. Sitting on top of that quiet ground are the sharp notes: small octagons outlined in dark brown that enclose a 4 part cross, open 8 point stars, and plain hexagonal cartouches arranged in strict rows. The border is the loudest element, a wide beige band carrying large 16 petal rosettes in salmon and brown alternating with scrolling fleur palmettes, framed by a narrow outer band. The corners resolve cleanly and the rosette spacing holds true down both long sides.

Color: Golden Beige, Camel and Chocolate Brown

The ground is a warm golden beige that shifts toward camel and light honey as the light moves across the pile, with the lattice picked out in a paler ivory cream. Through the field there is a faint sage green cast where the ground wool was dyed, which keeps the beige from turning orange and makes the rug easy to sit beside cool greys and white walls. The accent work is chocolate brown, nearly black in the octagons and stars, and the border rosettes are shaded in a dusty salmon and apricot that repeats as a pale tracery inside the field. The overall effect is a soft, low contrast neutral, the kind of piece buyers are looking for when they shop beige and ivory rugs, with just enough dark drawing to keep it from disappearing into a pale floor.

Origin and Weave: Chobi Peshawar, Made in Pakistan

Peshawar in northwest Pakistan is the center of the Chobi trade, where weavers work classical 19th century drawing in muted, softly washed palettes rather than the strong reds of older workshop pieces. This is a hand-knotted Oriental rug in that tradition: highland wool, a solid cotton foundation, and knotting tight enough to hold the fine outlines of the stars and the petal shading in the border rosettes, which you can see clearly on the reverse. The pile is medium height and dense, the selvedges are tight and the fringe is even and uncut. Nothing here has been distressed or over washed, so the rug has its full wool and will take years of traffic before it shows any change.
