6'8" x 6'8" Persian Sarouk Rug | Square All-Over Floral Panel Design | Rose-Red Field, Excellent Condition

True squares are the hardest Persian rugs to find, which is what makes this 6'8" x 6'8" piece worth stopping for. It is hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation, woven in the 2000's, and the pile still stands full and even with no low spots, no repairs and no fading, so the condition grades excellent. The drawing is pure Sarouk: a dense rose-red field carrying a balanced repeat of diamond panels, each one filled with flowers and framed by cream leaves. Because the proportions are equal on all four sides, the design reads the same from every chair in the room, which is exactly why square rugs suit card rooms, sitting rooms and square entries so well. Every rug we ship leaves Freeport with a certificate of authenticity confirming it as a hand-knotted Persian weave.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The photos were taken under different lighting. The straight-on studio shot reads as a deeper, pinker red, while the floor photos show the softer rose and salmon tone you see in daylight. The field color is the same rug in both. The soft ripples and shadows visible in one or two of the floor shots are fold lines from pallet storage, not wear, not fading and not damage. They relax out once the rug is laid flat, and every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it ships.

Design and Motifs

The field is an all-over floral design rather than a single medallion layout, built from a lattice of 9 diamond panels: 1 at the center, 4 at the inner corners of the field and 4 half panels breaking at the edges. Each panel holds a small 8 petal rosette inside a stepped cream frame, with the center panel picked out in red and burgundy against a cream ground so the eye still finds a focal point. Between the panels the weaver filled every gap with tiny flower heads, curling vines, leaf sprays and narrow cypress-like bouquets, the kind of busy, generous floral vocabulary that Sarouk weaving is known for. The main border runs a navy blue ground with alternating octagonal rosettes and cross-shaped star motifs, flanked by narrow burgundy guard stripes and an outer vine meander, and the 4 corners resolve cleanly where the border turns.

Color: Rose-Red Ground with Navy Blue and Cream

The ground color is the classic Sarouk red, here on the soft side: a rose-red that leans salmon and dusty pink where the light catches the pile, and darkens toward true red in the shaded photographs. Against it, the diamond panels are worked in a mid navy blue with a touch of teal, which is the sharpest contrast in the rug and the reason the lattice reads clearly from across the room. Cream and ivory outline the panels and the leaf forms, keeping the floral drawing legible instead of letting it blur into the field. Burgundy carries the inner and outer guard stripes and reappears in the flower centers, while small amounts of black and dark brown are used for outlining, stems and the shading inside the leaves. Scattered touches of pale peach and soft green sit in the smaller blossoms. If you are shopping a palette, this one belongs with red and burgundy Persian rugs that work with warm woods, brass and cream walls.

Origin and Weaving Quality

Sarouk weaving comes from the villages around Arak in west central Persia, where the design tradition has been built on dense floral repeats and heavy, hard-wearing wool for well over a century. Pieces in this drawing are sometimes listed in the trade under the Lilihan Sarouk name, after the neighboring weaving district that works in the same floral idiom. What matters on the floor is the build: a tight cotton foundation, a firmly packed wool pile with good weight and a short even clip that holds the fine floral detail, and side cords and ends that are still original and intact. The weave is regular across all 4 sides, with no pull or waist in the square format, which takes discipline on the loom. Our guide to Persian Sarouk rugs covers the regional differences in more depth if you want to compare this piece against older Sarouk production.
