7'10" x 10'8" Chobi Peshawar Oushak Rug | Beige Diamond Medallion | Brand New Natural Wool

Laid flat, this rug reads as one quiet sheet of sand beige wool with a single brown outlined diamond floating at its center. It is brand new and never used, knotted entirely by hand on a cotton foundation with a short 1/4" natural wool pile, which is why the drawing stays crisp and the field stays calm rather than busy. Chobi takes its name from the wood and plant dye tradition the style is built on, and the softly washed tonality here is exactly what buyers want when they shop 8x11 rugs that have to live under a sofa and a coffee table without competing with them. Every piece leaves our Freeport showroom with a certificate of authenticity confirming it as a genuine hand-knotted Oriental rug.

Design and Motifs

The center holds an elongated diamond medallion with a gently scalloped outline, drawn in a muted brown that is the darkest line anywhere in the rug. Inside it, thin vines curl around small five petal blossoms and leaf sprays, all organized around a single 8 petal rosette outlined in rust at the exact middle. Narrow pendant finials run off the top and bottom points of the medallion toward the ends, each one punctuated by a small rosette, and the 4 corners of the field are filled with broad spandrels of curling vinework that frame the open ground. That ground is the point of the design: large stretches of plain wool with only faint sprays, which is how Oushak drawing is supposed to breathe. The frame is a triple border, a wide main band carrying alternating cartouches and rosettes linked by arched vines, flanked inside and out by angular guard stripes of hooked zigzags and tiny blossoms, closing on a plain outer band and short ivory fringe.

A Beige Field With Sage Green and Rust Accents

The field is a warm sand beige that shifts between pale cream and light camel depending on where the light falls, with the gentle horizontal striation of hand-spun wool visible in the close-up shots rather than a flat machine tone. Against it, the corner spandrels are a soft sage green, almost celadon, dusty enough to feel aged on the day it was finished and the only real block of color in the rug. Rust appears in small, deliberate doses, the rosette at the heart of the medallion, the pointed cartouches in the main border and scattered single blossoms in the guard stripes, so the eye has something to land on. Brown and a faint mauve carry the outlines, while caramel and honey tones build the border ground. The result is one of those genuinely usable beige and ivory rugs that sits with oak, walnut, linen and grey tile without forcing a room to be redecorated around it.

Woven in Peshawar in the Oushak Tradition

Peshawar, in northwestern Pakistan, is where a great deal of the world's best new decorative weaving is done today, and the workshops there build their reputation on the Oushak and Ziegler vocabulary of open fields, large scale drawing and softened plant dye palettes. This piece is honest about that, made in Pakistan by hand and finished with the light wash that gives Chobi weaving its mellow, slightly antique surface. The handle tells you the rest: a firm, even back with straight rows of knots, selvedges tightly wrapped and a pile clipped low at 1/4", which keeps the fine border detail legible and makes the rug easy to vacuum and easy to live on. Among new hand-knotted Oriental rugs in this size, a clean medallion Oushak in this quiet a palette is the version that actually gets used every day.
