This is a brand new, never used hand-knotted Zigler Chobi from Peshawar, woven in the Mamlook design and finished at a true room size of 9' x 12'. The whole field is built as a mosaic of small compartments around one large star medallion, so the rug reads as a single architectural composition rather than a repeating pattern, and the natural wool pile carries a low, even sheen that shifts as you walk past it. It is a heavy, tightly packed weave on a cotton foundation with hand-tied fringe at both ends, the kind of Oriental rug that settles flat immediately and takes daily furniture traffic without complaint. Design and Motifs

The Mamlook drawing descends from the 15th and 16th century Cairene workshops, and this weaver has followed the old logic closely. At the center sits a stepped octagon on a near black ground scattered with tiny ivory sprigs, ringed by a coral and saffron cable of repeating teardrops, with an 8 petal rosette in green, gold and red at the exact middle. Four octagonal satellite medallions anchor the corners of the inner field, each one a black ground disc filled with gold scrollwork around a red rosette core. Between them the field breaks into dozens of small squares, diamonds and triangles, every compartment holding its own little flower head, candelabra sprig or cross rosette, so the eye keeps finding new detail at close range. The border system is equally disciplined: a wide outer band of red, apricot and green ogival lattice enclosing cruciform blossoms, framed by a black ground guard stripe of ivory interlaced arabesque, with narrow meander stripes separating the two. Straight lines, exact symmetry, no wasted space.

A Multi Color Palette Built on Black, Ivory and Madder Red

The ground tone reading through the compartments is a soft silver ivory, close to a warm pale beige where the wool catches light, and it is the element that keeps such a busy field from feeling heavy. Against it the weaver has set a deep charcoal black for the medallion grounds and the inner guard stripe, a full madder red in the rosette centers and the border blossoms, and a muted teal green that appears in the leaf sprigs and in the vine work of the outer band. Saffron yellow and apricot orange do the outlining work, tracing the medallion cables and the lattice ribbons so the geometry stays legible from across a room. Small touches of cream and rust fill the tiniest compartments. Seen together it is a genuine multi color rug, but the arrangement is controlled rather than loud, which is why it sits comfortably with both dark wood and painted furniture.
