7'11" x 10' Zigler Oriental Rug | Beige and Gold All Over Floral | New, Never Used

This is a new, never used hand-knotted Zigler in a quiet beige and gold palette, woven in natural wool on a cotton foundation and finished at 95" x 120". It is the kind of Oriental rug that works in a room where the furniture and the art are meant to be noticed first: no hard color breaks, no strong medallion, just a continuous floral field that reads as texture from standing height and as detailed drawing when you look down. The pile is cut medium low, so the drawing stays crisp, and the wool has a soft sheen in the raking light of the close-up photos. Every rug we ship carries a certificate of authenticity confirming it is genuinely hand-knotted, with its origin, materials and measurements recorded.

Design and Motifs

The field carries an all over floral design rather than a central medallion, built from scrolling vines that connect large sunburst rosettes, lotus palmettes, 8 petal flowerheads and long serrated leaves. Look closely at the center of the rug and you will see a small lobed cartouche flanked by paired leaf cups, a quiet nod to a medallion without interrupting the repeat. Small rust buds and paired comma leaves punctuate the open ground, which keeps the drawing from going flat. The frame is a 3 band system: a narrow inner guard, then a wide gold main border filled with alternating cream and sage palmettes linked by thin tendrils, then an outer guard of running leaf and flower sprigs. The corners resolve cleanly, with the border pattern turning the angle instead of being cut off, which is a good sign of a competent loom and an experienced weaver reading the cartoon properly. Ends finish in natural ivory fringe and the sides are tightly overcast.

A Beige Field Lit by Gold, Sage and Rust

Beige is the main color, and it is a warm beige with a faint sand and champagne cast rather than a cool grey one. The main border steps up to a deeper honey gold, which gives the rug a clear frame and stops the neutral field from floating. Inside that frame the accents are deliberately soft: sage green on the leaves and some of the palmette hearts, a dusty rust that appears as small outlines, buds and the occasional solid flower center, pale light blue in a handful of rosettes and leaf tips, and a deep brown used as the fine outline color that draws the vine work. One detail photo shows a pinkish mauve guard stripe between the field and the main border, a half tone that bridges the beige and the gold. The overall effect is tonal and low contrast, which is why this piece sits so easily with oak, walnut, linen and marble. If you are shopping the beige and ivory rug range, this one leans gold rather than grey.

Woven in Pakistan in the Zigler Tradition

Zigler, also spelled Ziegler, is a design name that goes back to the 19th century European trading houses that commissioned loosely drawn, softly colored floral rugs for Western drawing rooms. Today the best of that work is woven in Pakistan, where family workshops have spent decades refining the type: handspun wool, muted dye recipes (the Chobi trade name points to that wood toned palette), and a low shear that shows the drawing. This piece is a good example of the standard. The knotting is even across all 95" of the width, the back shown in the fold photo has straight knot rows with no pull or waviness, the wool is springy and dense underfoot, and the lines of the vine stay continuous through the whole field. At 7'11" x 10' it fits the common 8x10 hand-knotted rug footprint, slightly narrower than a true 8 foot width, which is often an advantage in a room where you want a few inches of floor showing on each side.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
