7'9" x 9'9" Ziegler Oriental Rug | Beige Field with Chocolate Brown Border | Natural Wool, Never Used

This is a room-size Ziegler in the most wearable palette the design comes in: a warm beige field carrying soft gold and green florals, closed by a wide chocolate brown border. At 7'9" x 9'9" it belongs with the 8x10 Oriental rugs that anchor a sofa group or sit under a six-seat table without crowding the walk-around. It is hand-knotted by hand on a cotton foundation with a natural wool pile, brand new and never used, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity documenting the weave, materials and measurements. If you are weighing it against other handmade options, our guide to what separates a Persian from a wider Oriental rug is worth five minutes before you buy.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The macro close-ups were shot under bright studio lights, which pushes the field toward a blush or peach cast. In daylight and in the full-rug views the ground reads as a warm beige with a faint rose undertone. The full overhead and angled photographs are the most accurate guide to the color.

Design and Motifs

The field is an all over floral composition rather than a medallion layout, so the pattern repeats cleanly no matter how the furniture lands on it. Large gold palmettes sit on a lattice of thin scrolling vines, linked by teardrop cartouches that each enclose a small blossom, with serrated leaves, 8 petal rosettes and tiny dark buds filling the ground between them. The drawing is generous and open, the way the Ziegler style is meant to be, with plenty of plain beige breathing room around each flower instead of the dense packing you see on later commercial copies. The chocolate brown main border runs a procession of ivory and gold palmettes with curling leaf arms, flanked by pale green guard stripes carrying a small repeating leaf and cross motif, and the corners resolve correctly rather than being cut off mid flower.

Warm Beige, Chocolate Brown and Soft Gold

Beige is the main color and it is not a flat beige: the ground shifts between sand, light camel and a faint rose warmth as the light crosses the pile, which is what gives this rug its depth on a wood or stone floor. Against that ground the palmettes read in soft gold and honey, the leaves and smaller blossoms in sage and olive green, with ivory outlines keeping every shape legible and small sparks of brick red and deep brown at the flower centers. The wide main border is a true chocolate brown, deep enough to frame the room without going black, and the pale celadon green guard stripes act as a quiet step between the dark border and the light field. It is a restrained, livable scheme that suits neutral and transitional interiors, and it sits comfortably with our other beige and ivory rugs.

Made in Pakistan: The Ziegler Weave

The Ziegler name comes from the Manchester firm Ziegler & Co, which in the late 19th century commissioned workshop rugs drawn for Western rooms: open fields, soft palettes, large flowing florals. Pakistan is where that tradition is carried on best today, and this piece is a good example of why. The back, visible in the folded and rolled photographs, shows small even knots in tidy straight rows with no pulling or lazy lines, the mark of an experienced workshop weaver rather than a rushed one. The wool is a good clean fleece with real luster in the pile, clipped at a medium height so the outlines stay crisp, and the selvedges and fringe are finished neatly by hand. Brand new, never walked on, and built on a cotton foundation that will keep it lying flat for decades of ordinary family use.
