8'1" x 9'8" Jaipur Oriental Rug | All Over Paisley Panel Design | Brand New, Never Used
This 8'1" x 9'8" Jaipur rug is a brand new, never used piece, hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation and drawn in the classical workshop style that Jaipur weavers have built their reputation on. It is a true Oriental rug, knot by knot, with a dense clipped pile, a straight square handle and hand-tied ivory fringes at both ends. The proportions sit right in the middle of the 8x10 area rugs bracket, which is the most useful room size in most American homes. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is hand-knotted and describing the size, materials and origin exactly as listed above.
Design and Motifs
The field is an all over design built from interlocking panels rather than a single central medallion, so the pattern repeats cleanly in every direction and reads well from any seat in the room. Burgundy compartments carry large curved paisley boteh leaves filled with tiny blossoms, and they alternate with ivory star panels centered on 8 petal rosettes. Gold cartouches with paired scrolling volutes sit at the junctions and give the layout its rhythm. The main ivory border runs a flowering vine of lilies, serrated leaves and turned palmettes, set between olive green guard stripes and closed with a solid burgundy outer edge. The drawing is tight and symmetrical, with fine outlining that keeps every curve legible even at the smallest scale.
A Burgundy, Ivory and Gold Palette
The dominant color is a deep burgundy, closer to aged wine than to bright red, and it carries the weight of the field. Against it the ivory panels read warm and slightly creamy, with no cold white anywhere in the weave. Antique gold fills the cartouches and parts of the border, catching the light differently depending on which way the pile is brushed. Olive green does the structural work in the guard stripes and leaf forms, cooled in places to a soft sage, while small touches of lilac, dusty pink and warm brown appear in the blossoms and border flowers. The overall effect is rich and traditional, warm enough for a formal room and deep enough to hide everyday traffic.
Jaipur Weaving and Quality
Jaipur, in Rajasthan, is one of the strongest hand-knotting centers in the world today, and India is where most of the best contemporary hand-knotted work is now produced. This piece shows why: an even knot count across the full 8'1" width, straight selvedges, a flat lie with no buckling, and wool with enough lanolin left in it to give a quiet sheen instead of a dull matte surface. The back photograph shows clean, regular knotting and crisp color separation, which is what allows the fine paisley outlines on the face. Among hand-knotted Oriental rugs in this size, this is the level of finishing that separates a workshop piece from a production one, and it has never been laid in a home.
