7'11" x 9'8" Jaipur Oriental Rug | Gold All-Over Floral Field | Brand New Wool

This piece came off the loom in Jaipur and has never been laid in a home. The field is a warm wheat gold that carries a soft sheen where the light crosses the pile, and the whole surface is drawn with a classical all-over botanical scheme rather than a central medallion, which is why it sits so easily under furniture. It is hand-knotted in 100% wool on a cotton foundation, with a firm handle and a level, closely clipped pile you can see in the rolled and folded shots. At a true 8x10 room size it covers a standard seating group with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug. Design and Motifs

The field uses the full classical vocabulary: broad crowned palmettes, long serrated saz leaves that curve through the ground like scythes, 8 petal and 12 petal rosettes, small lanceolate leaf sprays and thin curling vines that tie every element to the next. Two slim shield shaped cartouches sit on the long axis, one above and one below the center, giving the eye a place to rest inside what is otherwise a continuous repeat. The layout mirrors cleanly across both axes, so the pattern reads as ordered rather than busy, a hallmark of a well drawn all-over floral design. Framing it are 5 bands: a wide main border of alternating palmette bouquets and leafy sprays, an olive green vine stripe on either side, and fine reciprocal rosette guards at the outer edges, finished with hand-tied cotton fringe at both ends.

Gold, Burgundy and Olive: The Color Story

Gold does the heavy lifting here. The ground moves between wheat and a deeper camel depending on the angle of the light, and the main border is woven a shade lighter so the frame lifts away from the field without a hard line. Against that warm base the drawing is worked in burgundy and deep wine, olive and moss green, chestnut brown, apricot and salmon, with cream and ivory used for highlights inside the palmette hearts. Cool teal and indigo accents outline many of the leaves and flower centers, and that small amount of cool color is what keeps an entirely warm rug from going flat. The palette is muted rather than loud, which makes it forgiving next to oak floors, walnut furniture, cream upholstery and the browns and greens shown in the spec table.

Woven in Jaipur: The Rajasthan Workshop Tradition

Jaipur, in Rajasthan, is one of the great living weaving centers, and India is where most of the world's best contemporary hand-knotted work is now produced.
