8' x 9'8" Jaipur Indian Rug | Beige & Gold All-Over Floral | Brand New Wool Pile
This is a brand new hand-knotted Jaipur rug from Rajasthan, 8' x 9'8" of wool pile on a cotton foundation, drawn in the quiet beige and gold palette that decorators keep asking for and rarely find in a genuine knotted weave. The pile is dense and springy underfoot, the handle is heavy for its size, and the back shows the even, tightly packed knot rows you can see clearly in the final photograph. At 96" x 116" it sits comfortably in the 8x10 Persian and Oriental rugs footprint, which means it fills a standard seating area or carries a dining table and chairs without the legs stepping off the edge. Every rug we ship, including this one, comes with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is hand-knotted and documenting its size, materials and origin.
Please Note About the Photographs:
The full overview shot was taken under warmer light, so the field reads as a deeper tan there than it does in person. The close-up images of the field, border and corner are the truer record of the coloring: a soft beige ivory ground with a gold camel border and olive green guard stripes.
Design and Motifs
There is no medallion here. The field is a mirrored all-over floral composition built from large fanned palmettes, multi-petal rosettes, split serrated leaves and small bud forms, all tied together by a continuous scrolling vine that never quite repeats where your eye expects it to. Look at the close-up of the field and you can follow a single stem as it leaves a palmette, curls back on itself and throws off a pair of leaves before reaching the next blossom, which is the kind of drawing that only works when the knot count is high enough to hold a curved line. The border system runs 5 bands deep: a wide main band of alternating floral sprays and cream palmettes, framed on each side by narrow olive guard stripes outlined in rust, then a plain outer edge and ivory cotton fringe at both ends. All 4 corners resolve cleanly, with the main border pattern turning the angle instead of being cut off, a detail that separates careful workshop weaving from rushed production.
A Beige, Gold and Olive Palette
The field is a warm beige ivory, close to unbleached wool, and it does the most important job in the rug: it keeps everything else calm. Over it the florals are worked in soft olive green, gold, mushroom brown and a muted cocoa, with thin rust and terracotta outlines that sharpen each blossom and a scatter of cream highlights that read almost white in the detail shots. The main border shifts to a gold camel ground, a full tone darker than the field, so the rug frames itself without any hard contrast line, and the olive guard stripes pick the green back up from the field to tie the whole scheme together. There is no harsh red and no black anywhere in the palette, only deep brown used as an outlining color. The practical result is a neutral floor that sits easily with oak, walnut, linen upholstery and warm white walls, and photographs beautifully in daylight because the lustre in the wool shifts as you cross the room.
Jaipur Weaving and Quality
Jaipur, in Rajasthan, is one of the great hand-knotting centers of northern India, working in a floral tradition that traces back to the Mughal court workshops and their Agra successors. India is where most of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted work is now made, and we say that with confidence: the looms are large, the weavers are trained on classical cartoons, and the wool is spun for a pile that holds its shape. This piece is honest Jaipur work, an Oriental rug in the broad sense rather than a village weave, with a cotton warp and weft beaten down firmly enough to give the rug real body. Turn a corner over, as in the folded photograph, and the pattern reads clearly from the reverse with no stiffening, no latex and nothing hiding the knots. Brand new and never used, the pile still has its full height, which means decades of floor life ahead of it in a busy room.
