8'2" x 11' Jaldar Bokhara Rug | Forest Green Diamond Gul Lattice | Fine Wool Pile, Never Used
This piece came off the loom in Pakistan and has never been put on a floor. Jaldar is the diamond branch of the Bokhara family, and the weaver has filled the whole field with stepped lozenges in salmon, ivory and soft grey-green, set against a deep forest green ground and framed by a stack of narrow camel and ivory border stripes. The wool is dense, clipped low and springy underfoot, which is why the green shifts from near-black in shadow to a clear pine tone where the light lands. It ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is a genuine hand-knotted Oriental rug, and at this scale it sits with the 8x11 rugs that hold a full seating group or a table for eight without running tight to the walls.
Please Note About the Photographs:
The soft lines and shadows you can see across the field in several photos are fold marks from pallet storage. They are not wear, not fading and not damage. They relax once the rug is laid flat, and every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it ships.
Design and Motifs
The field is a strict all-over lattice of diamond guls, staggered so that each large salmon-outlined lozenge is flanked by a smaller dark-outlined one. The large diamonds carry concentric bands of salmon, ivory and black micro-geometry around a hooked cross center; the small ones hold an 8 petal rosette in grey-green and cream on a black ground. Tiny cross and bird-foot fillers float between them, and the whole grid is drawn crisply enough that the diagonals read as unbroken zigzag rows from any angle. The border is the part that shows the weaver's patience: 8 distinct stripes on each side, running from a fine reciprocal edge through a pale camel band of repeating hooked S motifs, a wider main stripe of linked geometric figures, and several ribbons of diamond-and-dot filler, all separated by black outline lines. The corners resolve cleanly, which on a border stack this narrow and this busy is the honest test of the draftsmanship.
The Color: Forest Green, Salmon and Camel Ivory
The ground is a true forest green, closer to pine than to emerald, with enough depth that in the overhead photos it darkens toward bottle green and in close-up it opens to a clear saturated tone. Against it, the guls are drawn in a warm salmon rose, a chalky ivory and a muted sage grey-green, with black used only as outline. The border ground is a pale camel-ivory that lifts the whole perimeter and keeps the dark field from closing in. Brown reads through the border stripes and in the abrash of the outer guard bands. It is an unusual palette for a room: green fields are much rarer than red or ivory, and the salmon keeps it from feeling heavy, so it sits well with walnut furniture, brass and warm white walls. If green is the deciding factor for you, it is worth comparing this against the rest of the green rugs in stock.
Bokhara Weaving in Pakistan
Bokhara is a design language before it is a place: the gul repeat belongs to the Turkmen tribes of Central Asia, and the workshops of Pakistan adopted it and refined it into some of the most consistently well-made hand-knotted goods on the market today. Jaldar is the finer end of that output, with a shorter clip, a tighter knot and a more detailed gul than the standard Tekke-style Bokhara. This rug shows it: the back is even, the rows are straight, the selvedges are tight and the pile is clipped low enough that every outline in the border stripes stays legible. A cotton foundation gives it a flat, stable lie, and wool of this quality on a new rug means decades of use before the field shows any softening at all.
