8'3" x 11' Jaldar Bokhara Rug | Green Diamond Lattice | Fine Pakistani Wool, Never Used

Jaldar is the tightest, most carefully drawn version of the Bokhara family, and this piece shows why collectors ask for it by name. The field is an unusual deep green rather than the customary red, and across it runs a continuous lattice of stepped ivory diamonds, each one filled with a slate blue ground and a salmon cross motif. It is brand new and never used, with a full 3/8" soft wool pile that still stands crisp underfoot, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity. At this scale it works as a true room-size 8x11 area rug, large enough to carry the front legs of a full seating group.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The first photograph was shot under studio light and reads darker and bluer than the rug is in person. The daylight photographs that follow show the true color, a clear deep green with ivory, salmon and slate blue. There is no wear, fading or damage on this rug; it has never been on a floor.

Design and Motifs

The drawing is a strict all-over lattice: 5 columns of large stepped diamonds run the length of the field, linked corner to corner by ivory outlines so the whole ground reads as one unbroken diamond grid. Inside each large diamond sits a slate blue panel carrying a salmon cross-shaped gul with hooked arms, and between them sit smaller ivory diamonds filled with 8 point star rosettes, with tiny 4 armed cruciform fillers scattered in the open green. That alternation of large and small is the hallmark of Jaldar and the reason it looks more resolved than an ordinary Bokhara. The border system is equally disciplined, with a wide ivory main band of repeating hooked latch figures flanked by narrow guard stripes of serrated diamonds and running vine, then a plain green outer edge. If you like this kind of drawing, it sits squarely within the best of geometric rugs.

Color

The field is a deep forest green that leans slightly toward teal where the light catches the pile, and it holds an even, lustrous tone across the full 11' length with the soft abrash you expect from good hand-spun wool. Against it the lattice is worked in warm ivory and cream, the diamond interiors in a dusty slate blue, and the central guls in a soft salmon that reads coral in daylight and closer to brick in shade. Thin outlines of dark brown and near-black give every motif a clean edge, and small gold and yellow flecks appear in the star rosettes and in the border vine. The border itself is the lightest area of the rug, a sand and ivory ground that lifts the green field and keeps the whole piece from feeling heavy. Green is uncommon in this design, which makes it a strong choice for anyone shopping green rugs with warm accents.

Origin and Weave

The Bokhara design descends from Turkoman weaving of Central Asia, and it took root in Pakistan when weaving families settled there and began producing it for export from Lahore and Karachi. Jaldar is the top of that production: finer knotting, smaller and more detailed guls, and better wool than the standard commercial Bokhara. The back of this piece, shown in the final photograph, is tight and even with a clear, legible knot, and the factory label confirms 100% wool pile and hand knotting. The wool is soft, well washed and takes dye deeply, which is why the green stays saturated rather than chalky, and the 3/8" pile gives the rug real body underfoot while keeping the lattice crisp. As a hand-knotted Oriental rug on a cotton foundation, it is built to be walked on for decades and to be washed and repaired like any serious floor piece.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
