8'6" x 11'6" Wool and Silk Oriental Rug | Khaki Tabriz Floral Design | Fine Weave, Brand New

This is a finely woven, brand new hand-knotted Oriental rug in a quiet khaki field, drawn in the classical Tabriz floral manner and woven with a wool pile carrying silk highlights. At 8'6" x 11'6" it falls squarely into the most useful of all room sizes, the kind of 9x12 area rug that covers a full seating group or a dining table with the chairs pulled out. The pile is clipped low and even, which is what lets the drawing stay legible at this scale, and the silk picks out the flower heads and leaf tips so the surface shifts in tone as you walk around it. It has never been used, the ends are secure with hand-tied ivory fringe, and it ships with our certificate of authenticity confirming it as a genuine hand-knotted piece.

Design and Motifs

The field is an all-over floral composition built on thin curving vines that link rose sprays, serrated palmettes, lancet leaves and small blossom clusters across the whole surface, with a single small lobed rosette medallion holding the exact center. That medallion is the detail worth looking at closely in the close-up photographs: an 8 petal rosette core in ivory and burgundy set inside a ring of pale leaves, flanked by paired roses and answered above and below by upright bouquets rising from a slender vase form. The drawing is symmetrical on both axes and repeats in quarter mirrors, a Tabriz discipline that depends on accurate curved line rather than angular shortcuts. Framing it is a wide ivory main border of scrolling vine with rose and claret palmettes and curling cloudband leaves, the corners resolved cleanly rather than cut off, and that main band sits between 4 narrow floral guard stripes outlined in dark navy that sharpen the whole frame.

A Khaki Field With Burgundy, Sage and Ivory

The ground color is a warm khaki, a soft camel tan that sits between sand and light bronze depending on the light, and because it is an open uninterrupted field it does most of the work in a room. Against it the flowers are drawn in deep burgundy and claret, dusty rose and shell pink, sage and olive green, with ivory and cream outlines that lift every motif off the ground and small hints of soft blue and grey used sparingly inside the larger blossoms. The vines and stems are a brown russet, and the guard stripes carry fine navy lines that keep the border from going flat. The main border steps up to a lighter ivory cream, so the rug reads as two related tones rather than a hard contrast, which is why it settles easily into neutral, grey, cream or wood-toned rooms without forcing the palette.

Origin and Weaving Quality

This rug was made in China, woven to a Tabriz cartoon by weavers working in that fine-weave tradition, and it is honest work: a cotton foundation, a dense wool pile with real silk used for highlights, and a knot count high enough to carry the thin vine work and the tiny blossom outlines you can see in the detail shots. The reverse and the rolled edge photographs show tight, regular rows and a low even clip, the signs of a workshop piece rather than a loose commercial weave. Wool and silk together give you two things at once here, the wear resistance of wool underfoot and the light-catching sheen of silk in the flower heads, and the rug is heavy and flat enough to lie well without fighting a pad. For a buyer who wants the look of a formal floral room rug in a soft neutral and does not want to pay antique money for it, this 8'6" x 11'6" piece is a very direct answer.
