8' x 10' Ziegler Chobi Peshawar Rug | Dark Brown Soltanabad All-Over Floral | Hand-Spun Wool, Never Used

This 8' x 10' Ziegler Chobi is the kind of piece buyers come looking for when they want a traditional drawing without a red field. The ground is a deep walnut brown, hand-spun wool that reads chocolate in low light and warm cocoa under a lamp, and the entire field is carried by a beige and ivory Soltanabad floral system with no medallion at all. It is brand new and never used, with a thick even pile, flat lying selvages and clean ivory fringe, and it is a genuinely versatile 8x10 for anyone who has been searching 8x10 Oriental rugs in neutral earth tones. Every rug we ship leaves with a certificate of authenticity confirming the weave, materials and origin.

Design and Motifs

The pattern is a classic Soltanabad all over floral composition: large lotus palmettes set on a slow moving vine, flanked by long serrated leaves that curl back on themselves, with small 8 petal rosettes and bud forms filling the ground between them. Four big cream rosettes anchor the center of the field while shield shaped palmettes run up the long axis, so the eye travels across the rug instead of stopping at a medallion. The main border is drawn on a golden beige ground with alternating leafy scrolls and small blossom clusters, framed by a narrow pale guard stripe on each side and finished with a solid dark brown outer band. The corners resolve cleanly, which is a good sign in a hand-drawn border of this scale.

Color Palette

Brown is the main color and it is not a flat brown: the hand-spun yarn gives the field gentle horizontal striation, shifting from dark espresso to a softer mahogany across the width, which is exactly what buyers of brown area rugs want instead of machine made uniformity. Against that ground the floral work runs through beige, oatmeal and light honey gold, with ivory used for the brightest palmette centers. Sage green appears in the leaf tips and small leaf pairs, cooling the palette, and soft terracotta and rust dot the blossoms and the small border flowers for warmth. The border itself is a light golden beige with a faint green pencil line separating it from the field. The whole range sits in the muted, low contrast register that makes this weave so easy to live with next to wood, leather and stone.

Origin and Weaving Quality

Ziegler Chobi rugs are woven around Peshawar in northwest Pakistan, where weavers reinterpret the 19th century Soltanabad repertoire using hand-spun wool and soft, muted dye work. This is a true Oriental rug in construction: a cotton foundation, knot by knot hand knotting on the loom, and wool spun by hand so the yarn takes dye unevenly and gives the field its subtle movement. The back photo shows a tidy, consistent knot grid with no bubbling or pulled rows, the selvages are hand wrapped, and the pile is left substantial enough to take real traffic in a dining room or a family living room. It is brand new, never walked on, and ready to lay flat straight out of the wrap.
