9'9" x 13'7" Oushak Design Rug | Ivory & Blue-Green All Over Lattice | Hand-Knotted in Pakistan
This 9'9" x 13'7" room-size piece was knotted entirely by hand in Pakistan, on a cotton foundation with a hand-spun wool pile, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity. The drawing is pure Oushak: a quiet ivory ground carrying an all over lattice of paired vine scrolls and soft blue-green star rosettes, framed by a wide grey-green floral border. It belongs to the broader Oriental rug family rather than to one city workshop tradition, and it is the kind of low-contrast decorative piece that works where a strong medallion would fight the furniture. Among 10x14 rugs it is a generous footprint, wide enough to hold a full seating group with all four legs of the sofa and chairs on wool.
Please Note About the Photographs:
Several close-up photos show a faint vertical line running through the field. That is a fold mark from flat storage on the pallet, not wear, not fading and not damage. It relaxes out once the rug is laid flat, and every rug leaves us professionally steamed and pressed before shipping.
Design and Motifs
The field is an all over design with no central medallion. Paired vine scrolls curl toward each other to form rows of pomegranate-shaped cartouches, each one closing around a small trefoil bud, and where four of those cartouches meet, an 8 petal star rosette sits at the crossing with a small apricot boss at its center. The repeat is read on a slight diagonal, so the eye travels across the rug rather than stopping in the middle. Framing it are four bands: a narrow reciprocal scroll at the outer edge, a cream guard stripe of meandering vine set with cruciform florets, the wide grey-green main border carrying large cream palmettes joined by looping leaf vines, and a final inner stripe of small florets running along the field. Corners are resolved cleanly, with the palmette turning rather than being cut off, which is the mark of a drawn cartoon rather than an improvised border.
Color: Ivory Ground with Soft Blue-Green and Grey
The ground reads as a warm ivory that shifts between oatmeal, wheat and pale sand as the light moves across the pile, with gentle bands of abrash giving the field depth instead of flatness. Over it, the lattice is drawn in a dusty slate blue while the star rosettes step up to a clearer sea green, the strongest note in the rug and still soft enough to sit comfortably beside grey upholstery. Camel and faded apricot appear in the vine stems and rosette centers, warming the whole palette. The main border is a muted grey-green, almost eucalyptus, with its palmettes in cream and its leaves in a deeper teal, and the thin guard stripes pick that teal up again in miniature. Nothing here is saturated, which puts this piece squarely with ivory and beige rugs for buyers working in a light, coastal or transitional scheme.
Woven in Pakistan in the Oushak Tradition
The Oushak vocabulary comes from western Anatolia, where weavers built large decorative rugs around open grounds, big drawing and restrained color. Pakistani workshops adopted that idiom decades ago and now produce some of the most consistent hand-knotted work in the category, and this rug shows why: an even cotton warp and weft, a regular knot line across a full 117" width, and a hand-spun wool pile with the slight irregularity in thickness that gives the surface its soft luster. The back photographs show a clean, evenly beaten weave with straight edges, hand-overcast selvages and natural ivory fringe finished flat. Pile height is medium, dense enough to stand up under a dining table or a heavy seating group, and the wool has the springy handle that survives years of traffic. Condition is excellent and never used, with no repairs, no low areas and full pile corner to corner.
