9' x 12' Chobi Peshawar Rug | Transitional All Over Floral Design | Ghazni Wool, Brand New
This is a brand new, never used Chobi Peshawar piece woven in Ghazni highland wool on a cotton foundation, and it is the quiet kind of Oriental rug that works in almost any room without shouting. The field is a warm ivory beige with a faint golden cast, framed by a deep chocolate brown main border, and the whole surface has the soft luster that comes from long staple highland fleece. At 9' x 12' it covers a full seating group with furniture legs on the pile, which is exactly the proportion most buyers searching 9x12 area rugs are looking for. Every rug ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is hand-knotted, one of a kind, and exactly as described here.
Please Note About the Photographs:
The soft diagonal lines you can see across the field in several photos are fold marks from pallet storage. They are not wear, not fading and not damage. They relax out once the rug is laid flat, and every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it leaves our warehouse.
Design and Motifs
The drawing is a classic transitional all over floral layout with no central medallion, so the pattern reads evenly from every direction and never fights a coffee table. Thin scrolling vines travel the length of the field and carry a rotating cast of motifs: large fan-shaped palmettes, scalloped rosettes with lattice centers, small pinecone forms, split leaves and tiny 4 petal blossoms scattered in the open ground. The scale is generous and the spacing is airy, which is what separates the Ziegler and Oushak style of drawing from a busier traditional layout. The main border runs a repeating chain of ivory leaf palmettes and rosettes on a dark brown ground, flanked by two narrow ivory guard bands filled with a small reciprocal leaf motif, and all 4 corners resolve cleanly where the border turns.
A Palette of Ivory, Chocolate Brown and Soft Sage
The field sits between ivory and pale beige, warming toward honey and light camel where the light catches the pile, and that shift is what gives the rug depth in person. Against it, the motifs are drawn in camel gold, soft apricot, taupe and a muted sage green that keeps the palette from turning entirely warm. Dark chocolate brown does the heavy lifting in the outlines and in the main border, where ivory and cream palmettes are set against the deep ground for maximum contrast. The finishing bands and the field are close enough in tone that the border frames rather than interrupts. It is a genuinely neutral rug, which is why it sits comfortably with white oak floors, linen upholstery, black metal and walnut, and why it belongs in the beige and ivory rugs group for anyone shopping by color.
Peshawar Weaving and Ghazni Wool
Peshawar, in northwest Pakistan, has become one of the most reliable sources of good hand-knotted work in the world, and the Chobi group is its best known output. Ghazni wool comes from sheep grazed at altitude in the Ghazni highlands, where the cold produces a long, oily, high lanolin fleece that takes dye beautifully and holds its sheen for decades. You can see it in the close-up photos: the pile has a silky reflection that cheaper wool never develops. The back shows an even, well packed knot line with straight rows and no pulling, the selvedges are tight, and the cotton fringe is clean and unworn. This is a new rug, woven to be lived on, and with normal care a piece like this will outlast the room it goes into.
