9' x 12' Pakistani Oriental Rug | English Garden All Over Floral | Brand New Fine Wool
This 9' x 12' rug carries an English Garden design from edge to edge, with a midnight black blue ground almost completely covered by flowering vine, broad seafoam scrolls and small open lattice panels. The pile is fine wool with a high clip sheen, so the blossoms lift off the dark field and change tone as you move around the rug. It is a recent weave in perfect condition: even pile height, straight sides, tight selvages and full ivory fringe at both ends, with no wear or restoration anywhere on it. If you are comparing 9x12 Oriental rugs, this one sits at the dark and densely drawn end of the range rather than the open, pale end. It ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it as a genuine hand-knotted piece.
Please Note About the Photographs:
A few photos show soft fold lines and shadow bands across the field. Those come from the rug being rolled and stacked in storage. They are not wear, not fading and not damage, and they relax out once the rug is laid flat in a room. Every rug leaves us professionally steamed and pressed before shipping.
Design and Motifs
There is no central medallion here. The field is a true all over floral design, built from large curling acanthus leaves that sweep across the ground in wide arcs and enclose clusters of peonies, roses, carnations, tulips and small many-petaled rosettes. Inside several of those enclosed shapes the weaver dropped in a fine black and gold diamond lattice, a nice device that breaks up the density and gives the eye somewhere to rest. Tiny 6 and 8 petal flower heads and curled tendrils fill every remaining gap, so at arm's length the drawing reads as a real garden bed rather than a repeating stencil. The main border echoes the field with a continuous meander of leaves and blossoms, framed by a narrow seafoam guard stripe at each edge, and the whole layout is drawn in flowing curved line rather than angular village geometry.
A Midnight Black Blue Field With Garden Color
The ground is a very deep midnight black blue, dark enough to read as near black in low light and to show its blue cast under a lamp or in daylight. Over that the palette is deliberately soft: muted seafoam and sage green in the big leaf scrolls, warm antique gold and honey in the smaller foliage and lattice work, dusty rose and salmon pink in the peonies, pale ivory and cream in the larger open blossoms, with occasional powder blue and faint lilac accents in the flower centers. Because the wool takes light so well, the greens can look silvery from one direction and almost olive from the other. The contrast between a nearly black field and pastel flowers is the whole point of the piece: it anchors a room like a dark rug while the flower colors keep it from feeling heavy, and it works with cream, taupe, walnut and brass just as easily as with saturated color.
Hand-Knotted in Pakistan
This rug was made in Pakistan, where workshop weaving of classical garden and floral patterns has been a serious craft for generations. The build is what you want to see: a cotton foundation, fine wool knotted at a count high enough to hold curved stems and individual petal outlines without breaking them into steps, and a low even clip that keeps the drawing sharp. The back shown in the detail photos is tight and regular, with clean rows and no pulling at the ends, which is why a rug like this stays flat and takes traffic well. Anyone new to the category can read our guide to how weaving traditions are classified, and browse the rest of our hand-knotted Oriental rugs for comparison. For a brand new room-size piece at this level of drawing, the value is in the density: hundreds of hours of knotting in a floor covering you will hand down.
