Design and Motifs

The field carries an all over design with no medallion and no repeating grid you can trace with a finger. Broad ivory ribbons undulate across the surface like unrolled banners, crossed by long serrated acanthus leaves in grey and shrimp. Between them sit rows of half-open pomegranate buds and small 5 petal rosettes, each one outlined in burgundy brown with a rust or orange center. The pattern is drawn on a large scale, so from standing height you read movement and rhythm rather than busy detail, and from a chair you start picking out individual blossoms. A single thin burgundy outline frames the field, with a plain golden guard stripe and ivory fringe finishing the ends.
