This is a full room size Persian Mashad rug measuring 10' x 12'11", hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation with a 3/8" pile that still stands full and even from selvage to selvage. The field carries no central medallion at all, which is the harder way to draw a rug this large, since the weaver has to hold the repeat honest across 155 inches of length without a medallion to anchor the eye. Burgundy runs edge to edge under a dense trellis of palmettes and vine, framed by a deep indigo main border and ivory guard stripes. Design and Motifs

Look closely and the repeat mirrors on both axes, so every motif on the left has a twin on the right and the same pairing runs top to bottom. A single crisp ivory rosette sits near the center as a quiet marker where a medallion would otherwise be. The main border is drawn on indigo with alternating shield shaped cartouches and split palmettes linked by a continuous vine, flanked by a salmon rust minor border of half rosettes and a narrow ivory guard stripe filled with running boteh. The corners are resolved cleanly, with the border drawing turning the angle instead of being cut short, which is a mark of a weaver following a properly worked cartoon.

A Burgundy Field With Ivory, Blue and Green Accents
