This is the formal, city-woven Kashan at its most recognizable: a deep navy field packed edge to edge with curling floral vinery, a red lobed medallion floating dead center, and matching red spandrels pinned into all 4 corners. It measures 10' x 12'8", which places it in the true room size bracket alongside our other 10x13 Persian rugs, and the drawing is tight enough that the pattern reads as one continuous composition rather than a field with a medallion dropped on top. The pile is a short 3/8" wool over a cotton foundation, dense underfoot with no thin spots, and the condition is excellent throughout with full fringe on both ends. Design and Motifs

The center is a red lobed medallion outlined in a fine ivory line, with small scrolled hooks projecting from each lobe and a pale blue cartouche interior holding an 8 petal rosette at its heart. Above and below it sit narrow red pendants that carry the eye along the long axis. The navy field around the medallion is filled with a continuous lattice of curved vines, split palmettes, serrated lanceolate leaves and small multi-color blossoms in ivory, powder blue, rose and gold, drawn on the curve rather than in straight village lines. The red spandrels in each corner repeat the same vocabulary at larger scale, so the corners balance the middle instead of competing with it. The border system is a classic 5 band arrangement: a wide navy main border of alternating palmettes and ivory arabesque scroll, flanked by pale blue and ivory reciprocal guard stripes, and finished with a slim red outer stripe at the selvedge. The drawing repeats accurately from side to side, which on a piece this size is the real test of a workshop cartoon and a disciplined weaver.

A Closer Look at the Colors
