10' x 13'6" Nepali Oriental Rug | Transitional All-Over Floral | Navy Blue & Gold

This 10' x 13'6" hand-knotted Nepali rug is a transitional reading of a classical all-over floral layout, drawn large and loose enough to live comfortably in a modern room. The field is a deep midnight navy, covered edge to edge with a lattice of scrolling vines, and it is framed by an unusually wide camel gold main border that gives the whole piece its warmth. The pile is a soft, lustrous wool with real body underfoot, worked over a cotton foundation on a fully hand-knotted weave, and the rug has never been used. Among the 10x14 10x14 Oriental rugs we carry, this one stands out for how quiet the color story is for a dark navy piece. Every rug ships with our certificate of authenticity confirming it is handmade, not machine made.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The field is a true midnight navy blue. Under the strong overhead lights of our warehouse it photographs close to black in some frames, while the floor-level and daylight-angle shots show the blue clearly. Expect the rug in your room to sit between the two, deep navy with visible blue in the pile. Every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before shipping.

Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. The drawing is a true all-over floral design, built from a repeating ogival vine that climbs the field in mirrored columns and encloses large serrated leaves, open rosettes, tulip forms and tall palmettes. Two lobed cartouches with small gold interior blossoms sit as accents within the repeat, giving the eye a place to rest on a field this large. The border system runs four frames deep: a narrow navy outline, a pale green guard with a running leaf chain, the broad gold main band carrying heavy cloud-scroll palmettes and split leaves, and a final sage guard before the dark navy selvedge. Because the repeat continues straight into the border on all 4 sides, the pattern reads as continuous rather than compartmented, which is what makes a transitional piece like this easy to place under furniture without losing the design.

Color: Midnight Navy with Antique Gold

The field color is the deepest tone in the rug, a dark inky blue that holds its saturation without flattening into black when light hits the pile. Over it the vinework is drawn in a soft grey blue, almost a dusty denim, which is the single most distinctive color choice in the piece: it keeps the ornament legible against the navy instead of fighting it. The leaves and buds move through sage green, a muted celadon and a pale ivory, with warm antique gold and faint apricot touches lighting up the rosette centers and petal tips. That gold becomes the dominant note in the border, a rich camel tone outlined in navy and shaded with green and blush, and the thin pink line at the outer edge is a small, deliberate flourish. The overall effect is dark and formal from across the room, warm and nuanced up close.

Nepali Weaving and Quality

Nepal has become one of the most respected sources of hand-knotted work in the world, and the Kathmandu valley workshops are the reason. Weavers there work the Tibetan knot on a cotton foundation using highland wool that is spun with a high lanolin content, which is exactly why the pile on this rug feels soft and cool in the hand yet stands up straight. The clipping is even, the outlines are cleanly cut so the grey blue vines keep their shape against the navy, and the selvedges and ends are finished tightly for a piece this heavy. As an Oriental rug rather than a Persian one, it takes a classical vocabulary and loosens it, which is what buyers furnishing a large contemporary room are usually looking for at this size.
