10' x 13'8" Oriental Rug | Navy Blue All-Over Floral | Hand-Knotted Wool, Never Used

Laid flat, this 10' x 13'8" rug reads as one continuous flowering field rather than a pattern stopped and started across the loom. The pile is wool, hand-knotted knot by knot on a cotton foundation, with a heavy, even handle and a full fringe at both ends that has never been walked on. It is a new piece in perfect condition, and as a formal traditional Oriental rug it belongs to the classical school of drawing rather than anything trend driven. Every rug we ship leaves Freeport with a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is genuinely hand-knotted.

Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion. Instead the field carries a full all-over repeat built on a lattice of apricot and gold vine scrolls that loop, split and reconnect from selvage to selvage. Hanging off that framework are large palmettes, open rosettes, curled serrated leaves and small budding blossoms, with 8 petal star rosettes in green and gold dropped at the lattice junctions to break up the rhythm. The main border on burgundy alternates a big navy-hearted palmette with a spray of leaves and side blossoms, and it is flanked by ivory guard stripes running a continuous vine of tiny flower heads, plus narrow rose and navy minor stripes. The 4 corners resolve cleanly, which on a rug this wide is the clearest sign that the cartoon was followed properly rather than improvised at the ends.

A Midnight Blue Field Against Deep Burgundy

The ground is a very dark navy that reads almost black in low light and opens into true midnight blue under a lamp or a window. Against it the drawing glows: rose pink and dusty salmon in the palmette petals, olive and forest green in the leaves and rosette centers, soft slate blue in the smaller blossoms, ivory and cream picking out the outlines, and a warm apricot gold in the vine work that carries the eye across the whole field. The main border shifts to a deep burgundy red, cooler and more wine toned than the orange accents inside, so the frame sits back and lets the field do the work. Ivory guard stripes give a clean separation between the two, and the navy outer edge finishes the rug against a pale floor.

Woven in Pakistan: Weaving Town and Quality

Pakistan's weaving centers around Lahore have become one of the few places on earth still producing hand-knotted floor rugs of this scale, this fine and this consistent, and this piece shows why. Turn the corner over and the back is tight and legible, each row beaten down evenly, with the pattern reading almost as crisply from behind as from the front. The wool is springy and takes the dye deeply, the pile is thick enough to live under furniture for decades, and the cotton warps run straight with no pull at the ends. At 10 feet wide it is a genuine room-sized piece, and buyers comparing options at this scale can browse our other 10x14 area rugs alongside it.
