10'1" x 13'8" Chobi Peshawar Oriental Rug | Ziegler All-Over Floral | Natural Wool, Never Used

This is a room-filling Chobi Peshawar in the Ziegler manner, hand-knotted in Pakistan from natural hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation and never put on a floor. The format is generous without being palace scale, which makes it one of the easier 10x14 room size rugs to live with: a soft beige ground, a rust coral border, and drawing that stays open enough to sit furniture on without burying the pattern. As a true hand-knotted Oriental rug, it ships with our certificate of authenticity confirming origin, construction and materials.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The faint soft shadows running across the open beige field in the overhead photograph are fold marks from pallet storage, not wear, not fading and not damage. They relax once the rug is laid flat, and every rug leaves us professionally steamed and pressed before shipping.

Design and Motifs

The field carries a balanced all-over floral design built around a small 8 petal rosette at the exact center, drawn in red and ivory inside a tan and sage cartouche. From that point the composition mirrors in 4 directions: large serrated leaves sweep outward, long curling vines carry open blossoms and split palmettes, and two big shield palmettes sit left and right of the center like quiet anchors. Flowering sprays rise from each end of the field toward the center, so the rug reads correctly from both long sides of a room. The main border is the signature element, a procession of broad lotus palmettes and tulip-like leaf forms alternating along the rust coral ground, with a rosette medallion centered on each side and resolved cleanly at all 4 corners. Two narrow guard stripes frame it, one a brown ground with small ivory clover and red tick marks, the other a blush ground with a running gold zigzag vine.

A Closer Look at the Colors

The ground is a warm beige that shifts toward soft gold and light camel as the pile catches the light, the kind of tone that comes from hand-spun wool taking dye unevenly across the yarn. Against it the main border reads rust coral, deeper and slightly brick in the close-up shots, lighter and warmer in the wide views. The floral work is where the palette earns its keep: olive and sage green in the leaves, walnut brown and mushroom taupe in the palmettes, old gold and cinnamon in the vine scroll, pale blush and dove grey in the small blossoms, and bright clear red used sparingly as outline and flower center. There is no navy and no black anywhere in the rug, which keeps the whole piece light. The palette sits comfortably with cream plaster, oak and walnut floors and leather, and it pairs easily with other beige and ivory Oriental rugs in adjoining rooms.

Origin and Weaving Quality

Chobi Peshawar rugs are woven in and around Peshawar in northwest Pakistan, where weaving families have built one of the strongest hand-knotted traditions working today. Chobi means wood, a reference to the plant and vegetable dye recipes these workshops use, and Ziegler refers to the classical all-over floral drawing those dyes were revived to serve. This example shows the traits dealers look for: tightly packed knots with crisp outlines that hold a curve, a dense even pile that stands up when you press into it, flat selvages, straight sides across more than 13 feet of length, and a back where the knot rows read clean and regular. The wool is the real story, hand-spun and left with its natural lanolin, which is why the surface already has a low sheen before a single year of foot traffic. At this scale it is a floor covering meant to be walked on hard and handed down, and it has never been used.
