This 8' x 10'1" Peshawar Chobi is a brand new, never used hand-knotted Oriental rug in the Zigler manner, woven in wool on a cotton foundation and finished with hand-knotted ivory fringe at both ends. It reads as a formal piece from a distance and a quiet one up close: a deep burgundy field carrying a continuous vine, a soft sage border, and no medallion to fight the furniture. The pile is full and evenly clipped, the selvages are tight, and the back shows a clean, regular knot line with no repairs, no reweaves and no wear. Design and Motifs

The field is an all-over floral design built from a single family of forms repeated on a lazy, sweeping vine: broad fan palmettes with scrolled cradles beneath them, 8 petal rosettes, small 5 point star flowers, and long serrated acanthus leaves that lean in alternating directions so the eye keeps moving. Nothing is mirrored mechanically; the drawing shifts slightly from repeat to repeat, which is the mark of hand work rather than a printed copy. The main border carries linked rosette cartouches and split leaves on a light ground, framed on both sides by narrow guard stripes of boteh and small blossom heads, and the whole border assembly is outlined in fine brown that keeps the pattern crisp at the 4 corners. The absence of a central medallion makes this a practical choice under a dining table or a large sofa group, since the composition stays legible even when half of it is covered.

A Burgundy Field Against Sage and Camel

The ground is a true burgundy, closer to wine and dried cranberry than to fire red, and it breaks gently across the width the way hand-dyed wool does when the light crosses it. Against that field the drawing is worked in camel and soft gold for the vine, ivory and cream for the flower centers, peach and salmon for the accents, and a muted celadon green that turns almost olive in the leaves. The main border reverses the scheme, putting the pattern on a soft sage ground with camel guard stripes above and below, so the perimeter cools the room down while the center holds the warmth. Small touches of dark brown outline the leaves and the border cartouches, giving the palette its structure.
