10' x 14' Turkish Tabriz Design Rug | Ivory Field, Burgundy Border | Dense Wool Pile, Brand New
This is a large, formally drawn room-size piece that has never been on a floor. The weave is unusually dense for a rug of this scale, with a short, tightly clipped wool pile that holds the drawing crisply right down to the smallest flower head, and a cotton foundation that keeps the 10' x 14' rectangle flat and true. Handling it, two things stand out: the weight, and the clarity of the outlines, where every petal and vine is fenced in by a dark contour line so the pattern reads cleanly from standing height. The reverse shown in the photographs confirms the knot count and the even, machine-straight selvages. A signed certificate of authenticity ships with the rug. Design and Motifs
The layout follows the classic Tabriz formula: a radiating star medallion at dead center, surrounded by an open ivory field carried over entirely with scrolling vinework, palmettes, rosettes and small leafy sprays. The medallion itself is built in concentric rings, a white eight petal flower at the core, a ring of green lanceolate leaves, then tiers of gold and ivory blossoms stepped outward into 16 points, with blue cusped tips breaking the rhythm. Pendant finials run north and south off the medallion and quarter medallions anchor all 4 corners of the field. The main border is a deep burgundy band of alternating ivory cartouches and floral bouquets, framed on both sides by gold minor borders of flowering vine, and an outer ivory guard stripe of curling palmette heads. A small woven cartouche sits at one end of the border, the traditional place for a workshop mark. The drawing is symmetrical, disciplined and repeated without any slack in the curves.
Ivory, Burgundy and Jewel-Tone Color
The field is a warm ivory, closer to soft cream than stark white, with a faint peach cast under direct light that keeps the ground from feeling cold. Across it the dominant tone is a honeyed caramel gold, used for the larger flower heads and the vine scrolls, shading from pale butterscotch to a deeper amber where the pile catches the light. The main border is a dark burgundy, a wine red with a brown undertone rather than a bright crimson, and that band is what frames and contains the pale field. Inside both field and border, the accent palette does the detail work: a strong cobalt blue in the flower centers and leaf tips, a few darker navy outlines, a true grass green in the small leaves and the medallion core, and clean ivory highlights that lift every motif off its background. Dark chocolate and near black contour lines separate the colors. The overall effect at a distance is ivory and gold with a burgundy frame, and up close it is far more colorful than the long shots suggest.
Turkish Weaving in the Tabriz Tradition
Turkey has woven to this curvilinear floral tradition for generations, and the better workshops take the Tabriz medallion cartoon and execute it with their own highland wool, which is springy, high in lanolin and takes a close clip well. That is what you are looking at here: a Turkish workshop piece, hand-knotted on a cotton warp, beaten down hard so the rows sit tight against each other, then sheared low so the pattern stays legible. The density is what separates this kind of production from commercial room-size goods, and it is also what makes the rug durable under furniture and traffic for decades. If you are weighing how this classification works, our guide to what separates a Persian rug from an Oriental rug explains exactly where Turkish weaving sits. This one is brand new, unused, and in perfect condition.
