Above and below the medallion are matching burgundy pendants, each finished with a large palmette that hangs into the open field. The 4 corners carry soft beige spandrels outlined in pale green, filled with curled acanthus leaves and rose sprays. Across the ivory ground runs a continuous arabesque of thin vines, each stem ending in a shaded rosette, a lotus palmette or a serrated leaf, so the field never reads as empty even though it is light.
