At 11'9" x 14'5" this is a genuine floor-filler, one of those oversize rugs that takes a full seating group or a 10 seat table and still runs past the furniture on all 4 sides. It is hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation, woven as a tight, low flat weave so the surface sits flat and firm underfoot with almost no give, which is exactly what you want on a piece this large. The drawing is tribal Herati, an all-over repeat with no medallion, worked in gold, coral and ivory across a deep ink blue ground and framed by a wide terracotta rust border of flowering trees. The rug is new and never used, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity.

Design and Motifs

The field is organized in strict horizontal registers rather than around a center, which is what gives this all-over design its steady, woven-textile rhythm. Rows of broad palmettes and stylized vase forms alternate with long curling cloudband bars checkered in red, gold and black, and the spaces between them are filled with small rosettes, lozenges and stalk-and-bud sprays. Each palmette carries a tiny cypress or tulip inside it, drawn in green and black, so the repeat never reads as mechanical up close. Inside the field a narrow Greek key meander closes the composition, backed by a fine reciprocal sawtooth stripe. The main border switches register completely: upright flowering trees with rounded blossom heads march around all 4 sides on rust, an old tribal garden device, and the outermost guard runs squared rosettes in boxes to the navy selvage.

Ink Blue Ground With Terracotta and Saffron Gold

The ground is a dark navy blue that leans aubergine under warm light and goes almost black at the edges of the photographs, a depth that makes the drawing above it glow instead of shout. The dominant accent is saffron gold, used for the largest palmettes and the cloudbands, with a coral to brick red doing the alternating vases and the small arrowheads. Ivory appears twice and both times it matters: in the pale cloudbands that cut across the field and in the guard stripe that separates field from border. Sage green and a soft olive sit inside the blossoms and leaf tips, cooling the warm tones. The wide border reverses the whole scheme, putting gold and green trees on terracotta rust, so the rug frames itself in brick and finishes in a thin dark navy outline.
