6'10" x 11'4" Turkish Oushak Rug | Aqua Teal All-Over Blossom Design | Wide Runner Gallery Size

This 6'10" x 11'4" Oushak was woven in Turkey in the 2000's, hand-knotted in natural wool on a cotton foundation, and it is the kind of soft, light-handed Oriental rug that decorators keep asking for and rarely find in a long gallery proportion. At just under 7 feet wide and over 11 feet long it works where a standard 8x10 is too square: a narrow living room, a long dining room, a library wall, or a wide hallway that needs one continuous rug instead of two runners. The pile is low and even, the handle is supple, the wool has a quiet sheen in raking light, and the condition is perfect with no wear and no restoration. It ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it as a genuine hand-knotted Oushak.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The first overall photo was shot under cooler light and reads a little bluer and stronger than the rug does in person. The angled studio photos and the close-ups are the truer reading: a pale, slightly green aqua field with sandy camel borders. Nothing has faded or been corrected, it is only lighting between shots.

Design and Motifs

The field carries a true all-over design with no central medallion: columns of tall slender stems rise the length of the rug, each one hung with a large crowned blossom head and flanked by feathered leaf sprays and small coral buds. Between the columns sit rows of broad serrated leaf and shrub forms drawn in olive and soft brown, so the field reads as a loose garden trellis climbing toward the top of the rug. The drawing is deliberately large in scale and slightly angular, with stepped outlines rather than tight curves, which is exactly how Oushak weavers handle floral forms. A wide camel main border is filled with meandering coral vinework, angular rosettes and stylized plant devices at the 4 corners, held in place by narrow sawtooth and dentil guard stripes, with a plain aqua outer band finishing the edge and natural ivory fringe at both ends.

A Soft Aqua, Coral and Camel Palette

The ground is a pale aqua that leans blue-green, shifting in soft horizontal bands of abrash from a cooler sky blue in places to a dusty sea green in others, which is the mark of hand-dyed, hand-spun wool rather than flat industrial color. Against it the blossoms are worked in ivory and light cream with coral and salmon outlines, the leaves in a muted olive and sage green, and the heavier shrub forms in a warm cocoa brown that gives the field its weight. The main border is a sandy camel beige that glows almost golden under warm light, with the coral vines reading terracotta where the pile catches the light and closer to dusty rose where it lies flat. There is no black and no hard red anywhere in the rug, so the whole palette stays gentle: aqua, blue green, camel, coral, olive and brown, a combination that sits easily with white oak floors, linen upholstery, brass and pale plaster walls.

Oushak Weaving in Western Anatolia

Oushak takes its name from the town of Ushak in western Anatolia, a weaving center that has supplied large decorative room-size rugs since the 15th century and whose look, big drawing, open fields and soft faded color, defined the Turkish side of the Oriental rug trade for centuries. The region's long-staple highland wool is the reason: it takes dye softly, it holds a sheen, and it lets weavers keep the knot count moderate while still producing a rug that lives for generations. This piece follows that tradition faithfully, woven in the 2000's by hand on an upright loom, with a steady knot grid visible on the reverse, a clean straight selvage and an even low pile throughout. It is a practical weave as well as a pretty one, dense enough for a dining table and chairs yet thin enough to sit under a door swing without lifting.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
