This 8'4" x 11'4" rug is a brand new, hand-knotted piece woven in India in the Oushak tradition, and it arrives with our certificate of authenticity. The pile is 100% wool over a cotton foundation, cut at a medium height that keeps the drawing readable while still feeling soft underfoot, and the weave is dense enough that the rug lies flat the moment it is unrolled. The field is a warm gold, filled edge to edge with large sage green and brown rosettes on a thin scrolling vine, and the whole piece is framed by a rust main border and two narrow guard stripes. At roughly 8x11 it is a true room-size Oriental rug, never used and ready to go straight down.

Design and Motifs

The drawing is a classic Oushak all-over floral design with no central medallion, so the pattern repeats calmly across the full 8'4" width and lets furniture sit anywhere on it. Rows of broad serrated rosettes and lobed palmettes, each one roughly 8 to 10 inches across, alternate across the field and are joined by a fine brown vine that branches into small lanceolate leaves, tulips and single blossoms. Look closely at the field and you will also find tiny stylized birds and 4 petal buds tucked between the larger flowers. The border system runs 3 deep: a rust main band of linked palmette cartouches, an ivory reciprocating wave stripe on either side, and an outer gold band drawn with small flower heads and the little dotted sprigs typical of Oushak work. The corners resolve cleanly, with the main border pattern turning rather than being cut off, which is the mark of careful cartoon work on a rug this size.

A Gold, Beige and Sage Green Palette

The ground is a honey gold that lightens toward golden beige where the pile leans away from the light, and it carries a gentle abrash, the natural shade shift that comes from hand-dyed wool. Against that warm ground the rosettes are worked in muted sage green, soft olive and a deep walnut brown, with terracotta and salmon centers and small ivory highlights that keep the flowers from going flat. The main border steps up to a dusty rust, warmer and deeper than the field, while the guard stripes pick up ivory and pale celadon. There is no hard black and no bright white anywhere in the rug: the darkest value is the brown vine work, and the lightest is the cream of the fringe.
