7'11" x 11'3" Moroccan Wool Rug | Ivory, Teal & Charcoal Diamond Lattice | Brand New, Never Used
This 7'11" x 11'3" rug is a hand-knotted Moroccan design woven in Pakistan from 100% natural wool, with a 1/2" pile that sits soft and springy underfoot. The field is undyed ivory, drawn over with charcoal diamond outlines and punctuated by teal and apricot lozenges, and both ends finish in a black and ivory flat-woven panel with hand-plaited tassels. It is brand new and never used, one of the easiest pieces to live with in our modern and contemporary rugs selection, and it falls into the most useful of the large formats, our 8x11 area rugs. Every rug we ship travels with a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is hand-knotted, along with its size, material and origin.
Design and Motifs
The drawing follows the Berber tradition of free-hand diamonds rather than a repeating machine grid, which is why no two lozenges on this rug are identical. A loose lattice of thin charcoal lines runs the length of the field, filled with concentric diamonds, single-outline diamonds, solid charcoal and teal lozenges, small arrows and chevrons, X crosses, 4 petal rosettes set inside diamond frames and one solid triangle near the center. Four large charcoal diamonds anchor the corners, and across one end a row of 13 teal diamonds reads almost like a tribal border. The upper end carries smaller spot motifs that give the composition a clear top and bottom, so the rug has a direction when you lay it in a room. Collectors of geometric rugs will recognize the vocabulary at once: it is spare, confident and deliberately uneven.
Ivory Ground with Teal, Charcoal and Apricot Accents
The ground is natural ivory wool, closer to warm cream than bright white, and the close-up photographs show faint horizontal striation where handspun yarn takes light differently from row to row. The outline color is not a flat black: the heavier diamonds are a soft charcoal grey, while the fine lattice lines and the end panels go nearly black, which keeps the pattern from looking printed. Teal is the accent that carries the rug, a clear turquoise blue in the large corner diamonds, the small scattered lozenges and the 13 diamond row at one end. Apricot, logged in the specifications as yellow, appears in perhaps a dozen small lozenges and reads as a soft orange in daylight. The result is a neutral rug that works with grey upholstery, walnut and brass, as the room photograph shows, while still putting real color on the floor.
Hand-Knotted in Pakistan in the Moroccan Tradition
Pakistan's weaving centers have spent decades building a reputation for honest hand-knotted work, and Moroccan and Berber designs are now among the things they do best. This piece is knotted row by row on the loom, not tufted and not glued, and the reverse shown in the photographs makes the construction plain: visible knot rows, a clean straight edge and a woven kilim finish at each end rather than a serged tape. The wool is strong local fleece left mostly undyed in the field, which is why the ivory has depth instead of looking bleached, and the 1/2" pile gives the surface enough weight to stay flat in a large room. If you are weighing where this piece sits in the wider trade, our guide on what separates a Persian rug from a wider Oriental rug explains the categories clearly. At 7'11" x 11'3", in perfect never used condition, this is a floor-ready piece with decades of service in it.
