8'1" x 10'2" Jaipur Oriental Rug | Light Blue All-Over Floral | New, Never Used

This is a brand new, never used Jaipur piece, hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation and finished at 8'1" x 10'2", which lands it squarely in the 8x10 Oriental rugs range that most American living rooms and formal dining rooms are built around. The pile still has its full height, the ivory cotton fringe is hand-tied and untouched, and the handle is supple rather than stiff, which you can see in the rolled photo. What sells this rug in person is the field color: a soft light blue, closer to a pale aqua than a navy, drawn over with a dense traditional floral repeat in brown, rust, gold and olive. Every rug we ship carries a certificate of authenticity recording its size, materials and origin.

Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. The field is an all-over floral composition, mirrored on both the long and short axes, so the pattern reads the same whichever way you walk into the room. Large lotus palmettes and serrated acanthus leaves anchor the repeat, linked by a thin gold vine that threads between curling paisley forms, 8 petal rosettes and small star flowers. The drawing is layered: each palmette is shaded through 3 or 4 tones so the flower heads appear to sit above the field rather than flat on it. The main border is ivory and runs alternating round rosette medallions and broad leaf palmettes, separated by a scrolling vine, with a narrow olive green guard stripe on the inner edge and a matching outer stripe. The corners are resolved cleanly, with the border pattern turning the angle without a break in the vine, and the selvage is overcast in light blue to match the field.

Light Blue Field, Ivory Border and the Warm Accent Palette

The ground is a soft, slightly grey light blue that photographs as aqua under direct light and as a calm dove blue in shade, which is what makes it so easy to live with next to grey floors or cool wall paint. Against it, the motifs run warm: chestnut and rust brown in the big palmettes, mustard and antique gold in the vine work and leaf tips, deep bottle green in the small leaf clusters, and a pale salmon pink that lights up the flower centers. A handful of burgundy and cream highlights act as outlines and keep each motif crisp. The border swaps the balance, putting those same browns, greens and pinks on a clean ivory ground so the blue field is framed rather than crowded. If your search is driven by color rather than origin, this sits in our blue Oriental rugs selection, on the lighter and softer end of that group.

Jaipur Weaving and the Quality of the Knot

Jaipur, in Rajasthan, is one of the main weaving centers of northern India, and India is where most of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted work is now made. We say that without hedging: the looms there handle fine traditional drawing at a price no other producing country currently matches, which is exactly why a piece like this exists. Fold the corner over and the back tells the story, with even knot rows, straight warp lines and a clear pattern definition on the reverse that only comes from a disciplined loom and a careful master weaver reading the design. The wool is high lanolin and takes light well, so the pile will burnish rather than dull with use, and the cotton foundation keeps the rug lying flat without the waviness you see in loosely woven goods. If you are weighing where this piece fits in the wider market, our guide on what separates a Persian rug from a broader Oriental rug explains the distinction in plain terms.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
