8'10" x 12'2" Zigler Chobi Peshawar Rug | Aqua Blue All-Over Floral Vinery | Brand New, Never Used

This is a brand new, never used Zigler Chobi woven in Peshawar, hand-knotted in natural wool on a cotton foundation and clipped to a low 1/4" pile so the drawing stays crisp underfoot. At 8'10" x 12'2" it sits squarely in the range buyers shop when they search 9x12 Oriental rugs, covering a full seating group or a 10 seat table without crowding the walls. The soft aqua blue field and wide beige border give it the washed, light-filled look that designers reach for when a room needs pattern but not weight, and if you want the background on how this family of weaving sits alongside other traditions, our guide to what makes an Oriental rug different is worth a read. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is genuinely hand-knotted, with its size, materials and origin recorded.

Please Note About the Photographs:

A few faint straight lines show in the close-up shots. These are fold marks from pallet storage, not wear, not fading and not damage. They relax out once the rug is laid flat, and every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it leaves our warehouse. The first photograph also reads a little deeper and cooler than the rug in hand; the floor-level images show the true softer aqua.

Design and Motifs

The field carries a true all-over design with no central medallion, built from a lattice of thin vines that link large ivory palmettes, lobed shield forms, 8 petal rosettes and tall serrated leaves that curl back on themselves like scythes. Between them sit small paisley boteh, each one outlined in a thin salmon line, and tiny 4 petal flowerheads that fill the open ground so the pattern never feels sparse. The repeat shifts gently from row to row rather than stamping the same unit twice, which is the mark of weavers working from a drawn plan and reading it by hand. The main border runs on an ivory ground with alternating open palmettes and leafy sprays joined by a scrolling blue vine, framed on both sides by a narrow guard stripe of repeating hooks and buds, and the whole composition is closed by a plain aqua outer edge with a hand-whipped selvage.

A Washed Aqua Blue and Beige Palette

Color is what sells this one. The field is a light aqua blue, somewhere between sea glass and faded teal, with visible abrash that lets the tone lift and drop in soft horizontal bands across the width. Against it the pattern is drawn in cream, oatmeal and a warm honey gold, with brown and tan shading on the larger palmettes and small notes of sage green at the flower centers. Thin salmon and dusty rose outlines trace the leaves and boteh, and the same rose reappears as a hairline in the guard stripes, which is what keeps the beige border from reading flat. The border ground is a pale sand beige, warmer than the field, so the two zones separate cleanly even from across a room. If your scheme leans toward blue Oriental rugs, this is the gentle end of that range: cool enough to sit with white oak and linen, warm enough for walnut and brass.

Peshawar Weaving and the Zigler Chobi Tradition

Peshawar, in the northwest of Pakistan, is the center for Chobi weaving, and chobi means wood, a reference to the wood and plant based dyes that give these rugs their muted, sun-softened tones. The wool here is hand-spun, which you can see in the slight irregularity of each knot row and feel in the dry, slightly crunchy handle of a new rug that has not yet been walked in. The weave sits on a cotton warp and weft, tight enough to hold a fine curved line through the palmettes and the border vine, and the pile is shorn low at 1/4" so that detail stays legible rather than blurring under a long nap. A low pile of hand-spun wool at this scale is also the practical choice: it lies flat under furniture legs, takes traffic well in a dining room, and cleans easily. Turn the corner over and the back shows even knot rows, a straight finish on all 4 sides, and no repair, which is what you expect from a piece this new.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
