8'2" x 11'3" Oriental Rug | Gold Transitional All-Over Floral | Brand New, Never Used
This is a brand new, never used 8'2" x 11'3" hand-knotted Oriental rug in a soft antique gold, with a wall-to-wall floral field, a wide ivory main border and a deep burgundy edge that frames the whole piece. The wool pile is dense and even, the drawing is clean right into the corners, and the proportions sit well in the 8x11 bracket, which is the size most buyers land on when a 9x12 is a touch too big. Shoppers comparing 8x11 rugs will notice how much calmer a gold ground reads next to the usual red. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is genuinely hand-knotted, with its size, materials and origin recorded.
Design and Motifs
The field is a true all-over design with no central medallion: large rust palmettes alternate with ivory rosettes and small star flowers, all tied together by thin olive vines that scroll continuously from one end to the other. Along the top and bottom of the field runs a row of cresting arch heads, a drawing detail borrowed from classical workshop carpets, which gives the open gold ground a defined edge rather than letting it simply stop. The ivory main border carries paired arabesque scrolls, standing vase-and-leaf groups and burgundy cross flowers, separated from the field by a narrow green pearl stripe. Outside that sits a gold guard band of zigzag serrated leaves, then the plain burgundy outer band. The repeat is drawn so the pattern resolves neatly at all 4 corners, which is the mark of a carefully followed graph rather than a rushed one.
The Gold, Rust and Olive Palette
The ground is a warm honey gold that leans toward camel in daylight and reads deeper and more amber under lamplight, with a faint natural variation across the width that is typical of hand-spun wool taking dye. Against it, the big palmettes are a muted rust that softens to salmon and terracotta at the outlines, while the smaller flowers are ivory and cream with pale sage centers. The vines and stems are olive and a cooler mid green, and small accents of deep burgundy appear in the field flowers and again, much more strongly, in the outer band. The ivory border is the lightest value in the rug and gives the eye a place to rest between the gold field and the dark edge. If gold grounds are your target, the wider gold rug collection shows how the shade behaves across different weaves.
Origin and Weaving Quality
This rug was hand-knotted in Pakistan, home to some of the most disciplined contemporary workshop weaving anywhere: the Ziegler and Chobi tradition there takes classical floral graphs and weaves them in softly dyed natural wool on a cotton foundation, aimed squarely at buyers who want the drawing of an old carpet with fresh, unworn pile. The knotting here is tight and regular, the back shows crisp motif definition with no slack rows, the selvages are firmly wrapped in burgundy wool and the fringe is clean and secure. Pile height is plush but not shaggy, so the outlines stay sharp underfoot. If you are weighing this against a Persian town weave, our guide to Persian rugs versus Oriental rugs explains exactly where the two differ in wool, dye and drawing. In hand, this one feels like what it is: a careful, modern piece with nothing used up in it.
