8'9" x 12' Wool and Silk Oriental Rug | Contemporary Daisy Floral on Burgundy | Brand New
This is floor art rather than a traditional formal layout: a deep burgundy ground with no border at all, scattered with oversize daisy and cornflower blooms drawn at close to life scale and joined by thin curving stems. At 8'9" x 12' it covers a full seating group or a 10 seat table, which puts it squarely in the practical range of 9x12 Oriental rugs, and because the pattern reads as a single unbroken composition it does not fight whatever furniture sits on top of it. It is hand-knotted in wool with silk used through the petals, brand new and never used, and it ships with our certificate of authenticity confirming it as a genuine handmade Oriental rug.
Please Note About the Photographs:
The first overhead studio image reads a little lighter and cooler than the rug in hand. The floor photographs taken on grey tile show the truer, deeper burgundy. Nothing in the images is fading, wear or damage, and every rug leaves us professionally steamed and pressed.
Design and Motifs
The drawing is confident and graphic. Open daisies carry 20 or more narrow saw-edged petals around a solid disc center, some facing the viewer square on, others tipped sideways so the petals fan to one side like a half closed carnation. Between them sit shadow blooms, flowers rendered only in olive and taupe with dotted seed centers, which give the field depth without adding another bright color. Slim stems travel corner to corner and carry pointed leaves and tight buds, and the composition runs right off all 4 edges with no border and no medallion, which is what separates this from classical layouts and places it with genuinely all-over floral rugs. The flower outlines are lightly carved into the pile, so the motifs hold a crisp edge even where two pale tones meet.
Burgundy, Cream, Orange and Olive
The field is a warm burgundy that shifts between wine and a softer rose-red depending on which way the pile is brushed, visible clearly in the rolled-edge close-up. Against it the blooms run through a graded sequence: chalk cream and ivory at the palest, then beige, buff and apricot, then two or three flowers pushed all the way to a clear pumpkin orange, with centers that range from pale sand to deep marigold. Leaves and stems are olive and sage with a dry khaki cast, and the shadow flowers add brown and bronze. It is a tight, warm palette, and it makes this one of the easier burgundy and red area rugs to live with, since the orange and cream carry enough light to stop the red reading heavy.
Hand-Knotted in China: Weave and Quality
This piece was hand-knotted in China on a cotton foundation, knot by knot on the loom, in the tradition of workshop weaving that has supplied the best of the world's modern and contemporary rugs for decades. The wool is spun and clipped to a dense, even plush, and silk is reserved for the petals and leaf veins, which is why those shapes flare bright from one angle and sink into shadow from the other while the red ground stays matte. The folded corner shows a tidy selvage and a clean, regular back with no distortion in the weave, and the overlocked ends are finished flat. New, unused and structurally perfect, it is the kind of large hand-knotted piece that will take daily traffic for decades.
