8' x 10' Chinese Bamboo Silk Rug | Tabriz All Over Floral Design | Brand New, Never Used

This is a brand new, never used hand-knotted rug in bamboo silk, drawn in the classic Tabriz all over floral manner and woven in China. At 8' x 10' it is the standard American living room size, and the pile has the bright reflective surface that bamboo silk is bought for: the ivory ground shifts from pale cream to warm champagne depending on which way you walk around it. The knotting is fine and even, the drawing of the vines stays crisp through every curve, and the rug lies flat with full pile and clean, undamaged fringe on both ends. Every rug we ship, including this one, comes with a certificate of authenticity stating the size, materials, origin and construction. It is one of the easier pieces to place among our 8x10 Oriental rugs because the palette is so light and quiet.

Please Note About the Photographs:

A few soft fold lines and shadow bands show in the overhead photographs. These come from the rug being rolled and stacked in the warehouse. They are not wear, not fading and not damage, and they relax once the rug is laid flat. Every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it leaves us, so the surface arrives smooth.

Design and Motifs

The field carries a continuous all over design with no central medallion, built from large interlocking vine scrolls that sweep out of the center axis and repeat across the full 8' x 10'. Inside those scrolls sit shaded palmettes, lotus blossoms, split arabesque leaves and small 5 petal and 8 petal rosettes, with tight clusters of 3 and 4 small flowers dropped between the larger blooms to keep the ground from going empty. A small eight point rosette marks the exact center of the field, a quiet nod to the medallion the weaver chose not to draw. The border system runs five bands deep: a wide main border of the same vine and palmette vocabulary, flanked by narrow reciprocal guard stripes with dark outlined floral sprigs, then a fine outer beading stripe at each edge. Corners are properly resolved rather than cut off, which is the detail that separates a carefully drafted Tabriz style cartoon from a cheap copy.

A Light, Luminous Ivory and Green Palette

The ground is ivory, closer to warm cream than stark white, and the bamboo silk makes it read two different ways in one room: pale and cool where light hits it straight, golden and honeyed where it does not. Over that ground the vines are drawn in soft sage and olive green, with the larger palmettes shaded from mid green into pale celadon. Accents are restrained and deliberate: small clusters of burgundy and rose red flowers, pale blue and powder ice blue petals in the guard stripes, blush pink highlights on the border blossoms, and very dark navy that reads nearly black in the outlines and flower centers. The main border shifts to a slightly deeper sand and champagne tone, so it frames the field without a hard color break. If you are furnishing around neutrals, this sits comfortably with the rest of our ivory and beige Oriental rugs and takes on whatever warmth the room's lighting gives it.

Origin and Weaving Quality

This piece was hand-knotted in China on a cotton foundation, following the Tabriz drawing tradition rather than claiming it: Tabriz here is the name of the design, not the place of weaving, and we state the origin plainly because that is what an honest listing looks like. Chinese workshops have long specialized in fine floral all over cartoons of exactly this type, and the knot count here is high enough that the vine lines stay thin and unbroken through their tightest turns, which is the real test of the drawing. The pile is bamboo silk, a plant based fiber spun for sheen, cut low so the pattern stays legible and the surface stays reflective. If you are weighing how a piece like this compares with village and city work from Persia, our guide on what separates a Persian rug from an Oriental rug lays out the differences in weave, material and market. This one has never been on a floor: full pile, square corners, sound selvages and intact fringe.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
