7'9" x 10' Wool & Silk Tabriz Design Rug | All-Over Floral on Burgundy | Brand New, Never Used

This is a fine hand-knotted Oriental rug made in China, woven in wool with silk drawn through the flowers and vine work so the pattern catches light from one direction and goes quiet from the other. At 7'9" x 10" the piece reads as a standard room-size floor covering, and it sits neatly among 8 x 10 area rugs when you are measuring for a seating group or a dining table. The pile is full and unwalked, the fringes are clean and even, and the back shown in the final photograph is tight and regular with clearly legible knot rows. It has never been used, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is a genuine hand-knotted piece.

Design and Motifs

The field carries no medallion at all. Instead the whole 7'9" x 10' surface is filled with an all-over floral lattice: thin scrolling vines that arc and double back, carrying open rosettes, half-palmettes, tulip-like buds and serrated leaves, with small 8 petal star flowers and tiny rice-grain fillers scattered in the ground between them. The drawing is mirrored left to right along the center axis, which is what gives the field its calm order at a distance even though the detail is busy up close. Framing it is a wide black main border of paired palmettes and cartouche-like floral heads, flanked by ivory guard stripes of running vine, then two further narrow bands, so there are 4 distinct border layers before you reach the selvage. This is classic Tabriz drawing: curved line, continuous vine, and enough knots behind it to keep the curves from breaking into steps.

A Deep Burgundy Ground Against Black and Ivory

The ground is a deep burgundy, closer to wine and oxblood than to a bright red, and it darkens or warms depending on the angle because of the silk in the pile. Against it the floral work is worked in cream and ivory, soft sage and olive green, gold, and a pale salmon that reads almost pink in the close-up photograph, with occasional touches of soft teal in the flower centers. The black main border is the anchor, and the ivory guard stripes keep the black from closing the rug in. For rooms built around red and burgundy rugs, this palette works with dark woods, brass, cream upholstery and warm white walls without fighting any of them.

Origin and Weaving Quality

This rug was made in China, in the workshops that took up the fine floral repertoire and now weave it at a knot count high enough to hold the curved vine and the small flower heads without distortion.
